About Me

I'm welcoming myself back to the swapping world - a little at a time. I'm 41, rooted back in the midwest and it would be rad to find more penpals.

I went through a divorce a while back that shook up my entire life for a while. It's been years and I'm really proud of what I've been able to accomplish and I'm pumped to learn about new people and share tales.

Favorite Books

Maybe we'll consider recent reads! I've been working hard to read more and I've really grown to enjoy Fiction in a way I hadn't before. I like discussing books and I always feel like I'm behind on reading!

Currently Reading: What You are Looking for Is in the Library by Michiko Aoyama

Last Few Reads: Life Ceremony by Sayaka Murata, Getting To Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In by Roger Fisher, Oh Dear Silvia by Dawn French, Breakdown by Cathy Sweeney

Favorite Movies

I'm not much of a movie buff, but I have some that I really love:

Moonstruck Lost in Translation The Witches of Eastwick Many selections from Mystery Science Theater 3000

I do really love documentaries and watch them often. Some of my favorite topics including Cults/Religious Life, True Crime, Tudor Royalty, Food History and Drag

Favorite Television

Some favorites:

Bob's Burgers What We do in the Shadows Vera RPDR Dragula

I'm not into television a lot but when I commit to a show - it is true love only. lol

Favorite Crafts

I've never been very good at crafts but I definitely appreciate peoples' talent and hard work.

Are the following things crafts? Baking Gardening Letter-writing (I give mail art my best shot, but I'm a bit terrible at it. lol) Thrifting

Favorite Colors/Things

I've moved a lot and learned what things are truly meaningful to me through years of combing through and packing up everything I own five times in the last seven years. Each time, it seems like the I'm downsizing and I technically live in a studio now. It's been really something to challenge myself to continue to convey my style, personality while maintaining comfort for my pets (two Exotic Shorthair Cats: Florence and Houston).

That said, I still love plants, have a million things to hang on the wall, original art (when I can afford it), and thrifted or vintage finds. I try really hard to go used first - there's an entire world of things that are destined for the landfill if we don't at least give it a try!

I love to travel and just got back from Ireland earlier this month (March 2024). I've got my sights set on so many places but my wallet has asked me to slow down. I like chatting about travel and I like to learn a lot from international pen friends as well.

Favorite Music

I collect Classical, Opera, Classic Country, Bluegrass and Vocalist records. I could easily collect more, but honestly...every radio station in the world plays Classic Rock and the like...there is no need to own things that I hear every waking minute. One of the things that I am searching for most of the time when I am rooting is records from The Mills Brothers.

I also love going to live shows and try to get to as many as I can. I've been to a lot of shows and the next on the list are Judas Priest, Kraftwerk and Pulp. The last was Southern Culture on the Skids. It's exciting to think about more to come and I feel immensely lucky to live within 20 minutes of several large music venues in the city.

I love talking about live music and would enjoy a pen pal that loves it, too.

I try to find at least one new song to listen to a day - the internet is a gift for that kind of exploration.

Swapping

I like to swap in flat mailing most of all - because the creativity of what fits into a envelope is fun. But, I also really just want, more than anything, a thoughtful letter. It can be any stationery with any handwriting and I will appreciate that you've taken the time to share your thoughts and your life. And in turn, that's what I'm intending on giving. But, I do like to share postcards and silly inclusions when the mood strikes.

I'm thinking about more email swaps again, but we'll see - as I spend so much time emailing not for fun. lol

I like Fred Rogers, too. And yellow. And stickers, which I am not sure you mentioned. I have ADD, too. And I miss you. I say we go into business together, with a line of T-shirts that state: "What Would Fred Do"? With apologies to Jesus, and the clever person who came up with the original design; I think these would be a cash cow, and the beauty is we could put our moms in charge and count our money from the respective comfort of our childhood bedrooms.

Except that it's dumb that newer messages get put on top of older ones. My brain doesn't work like that. I like to read down. That's just a little fyi for you. Write my messages going down. So you'd have to end with:

You're my number one pen-pal, Jess

See what I'm saying?

lettergirl on May 2, 2013:

Nope. I got nothing.

lettergirl on May 2, 2013:

Hi there, you're not on here much anymore, huh? What's new? I don't have much to say at the moment, but I'm sure I'll think of something as soon as I click "leave comment". Let me try.

Hi there...So perhaps I shouldn't have fired off a message like that to you. Sorry for making you hear all of my ugly thoughts. :(

lettergirl on Sep 14, 2012:

I'm leaving a message on your profile because you are awesome.

lettergirl on Aug 6, 2012:

That rad card did indeed help things. I'm not Mary Poppins yet, but your letters really cheer the suicidal gloom away, so that's something, huh? haha! Just a little serious depression humor for you there. A very little. No really, I'm doing better, and I can't wait for your letter. I got a kick out of the card, and the way you used it, and I'm ALREADY feeling the love for my next Mother's Day, so that's a bonus! :) Ok I'm at work, trying to get the room ready for the little kids who come and stare at me tomorrow morning for Meet the Teacher. Bulletin boards make me want to flee, but I'll persist. Talk to you soon.

lettergirl on Jun 10, 2012:

A letter awaits you shortly. It is probably flying over the St. Louis Arch as we speak. (As long as as we speak is Monday or Tuesday.)

lettergirl on May 15, 2012:

I think you'd better watch Sister Wives. I like these people so much (probably because I'm quite familiar with Mormons) that I'd almost like to be one. Except his children are unfortunately unattractive in most if not all cases. I couldn't exactly appreciate that, but they have a better life than me. Of course, that's not saying much at this point.
