Are you sure you want to signup for Easter Bible Study - Peter's Denial?
Yes, sign me up! or No, I changed my mind.
This Swap series will help us dig a little deeper into some of the elements of the Easter story. Read the recommended Bible passages and the thought-provoking blurb below. Send your partner a letter or notecard answering the prompts at the end of this post. There is a little creative writing involved with this series. Get creative and really try to imagine yourself in the passage for this week! If you get stumped, ask the Lord for His inspiration.
Bible passages to read and reflect on this week:
John 13:37
John 18:15-18, 25-27
At the Last Supper, Peter says to Jesus, “Lord, why can I not follow You right now? I will lay down my life for You”. Yet, shortly after, in the face of adversity, Peter denies ever knowing Jesus. How many times have we been like Peter–singing God’s praises, and then, just as quickly, denying our Lord? Jesus reminds us: “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great” (Matthew 5:11). Pray that God may give you a spirit of courage and love of God, so that even when it is difficult or unpopular, you never deny your Christian identity.
Have there been times that you’ve denied Jesus? Have you ever been afraid of your Christian identity? What are you afraid of?
