Description:

ok, i was just looking into journal prompts, and got an idea i think is great! so, i'm going to share, in the form of a swap!

step 1: post 2 or 3 of your favorite poems in the comments below.(be sure to list author. if it's a hard to find one, put a place to find poem...)

step 2: when partners are assigned, look at your partners comment. check out the poems...(you may have to check the library, or bookstore to find it...) pick 1, or intersperse all.

step 3:buy a lined journal (unless your partner states she prefers unlined) that kind of suits the theme of the poem. (even if it's a dark colored journal for a dark poem. you interpret)

step 4: put parts of the poem on some of the pages throughout the journal. be sure to leave space for them to journal. (like, put a line across the top, leaving lines open. note: this is open for interpretation, and is just an example. don't give a 3 if the poem lines are in a different spot. it's only important there be room to journal later)

step 5: put some art or something around some of the edges. even a doodle, or stamp, preferably meeting the theme of the poem.

note: not every page has to have poem lines or doodles. just be sure it's interspersed throughout, not just on the first page or 6..

The goal here is to create a journal for your partner they will absolutely love to write in!

now, i'm not listing a particular number to be higher than. i will check everybody thoroughly, and be watching the questionable swappers thread. i will ban as necessary. if you see someone you'd rather not swap with, shoot me a pm about why. i will consider it carefully, and pm you back. i really want this swap to be fun! also, i'm sorry, but i'm leaving extreme newbies out of this one. you must have at least 3 rated swaps that aren't internet swaps. and, for everyone, and i can't stress this enough: FILL OUT YOUR PROFILES!!! it's soo hard to be sure you'll like something if your profile isn't filled out!!! this shouldn't have to be said, but be sure to rate fairly. i'm not going to state what to give a heart for. if you don't know what they're for, read the faq section. and remember, hearts are not a have to do thjing, like 5's for meeting requirements. they are at will. send what you'd like to receive, and remember the actual rules of rating. you can't give a 3 because you didn't like it. that's just the rules of swapbot. but, you can try your best to make it something your partner will love. remember, everything you write on the internet is open to interpretation... we can't read your face.

also, if you haven't picked a few poems by the swap date, your partner will pick a poem for you. if you want to know you'll love it, MAKE SURE YOU POST A COUPLE POEMS! if you have any ?'s be sure to ask. i think that's everything, but i may have forgotten something... o, i love when theres pictures in the swap gallery! please post pics there, especially if you're proud of what you've made!

this is international.

to Jane, the cloud (pick a stanza, the whole very long poem is not necessary), the indian serenade those are by Percy B. Shelley. by frost: the road not taken, or the rose family. or, by Shel Silversteen, Ickle me, pickle me, tickle me too! or colors. (both located in 'where the sidewalk ends.'

i know i've listed several, but i want you to have a decent range to choose from!

there is no limit, or minimum pages, as long as the poem is adequately dispersed throughout the book. (it doesn't, however have to be the exact same amount of pages between lines... i tend to be a bit of a perfectionist with my art/crafts, sometimes, but that's not completely neces2qg6

I would prefer a blank book as I will add more drawings and collarge rather than words, thank you.

My Poem is "The night before Christmas" by Clement C. Moore

or

"Miss Fogarty's Christmas Cake" http://www.carolingcorner.com/fogarty.html this is a song so use the Chorus only once. I dont know who wrote it as it comes from the New York Music Halls of the 1920's and 30's

Hugs:-)

Hi againe I'v just found that Miss Forarty's Christmas cake was written by Horn, C. Frank. and was published in 1883, I found this out on -

A site I find most useful is http://www.poemhunter.com/ and http://poetry.poetryx.com/ I hope that is a help to some of you. Hugs :-)

Hi Dreamerkins I have been printing out all the above poems so I can read them all and so when partners are asigned I will have some idea of how I am going to go about decorating the book. My problem is I cannot find your "Colors", who is it by and where can I find it? Hugs :-)

dreamerkins 12/27/2007 #

it's by shel silversteen. also located in the book, 'where the sidewalk ends.' along with the previous... ickle me, pickle me, tickle me too. they are both silly funny childrens style poems... it's about 8 lines long... i could pm it to u if you like, but am afraid of copyright laws if i just put it on here... (i'm not sure if it's ok to put a poem up here, or not...)

dreamerkins 12/27/2007 #

ah, here we go... the poem with all the different colored words on this page about half way down, on the right...

dreamerkins 12/27/2007 #

ooo, i just found another when looking that up... the bridge i just love childrens poems!! hee hee.

AngelFaeryKathleen 12/28/2007 #

Hi Dreamerkins, I had found "Ickle me" on line and when at the library yesterday requested "Where the Sidewalk Ends" but they did have in "A light in the Attic". I have been giggling over it ever since. I did not know Shel also wrote poems, that is what I like about all the poem swaps on Swap-bot I am getting to know even more poets. Thank you for all your help. Hugs :-)

Here are the two poems I would like to be on my list for the poetry journal:

Keep a Poem in Your Pocket by Beatrice Schenk de Regniers

and

How to Eat a Poem by Eve Merriam

These are both children's poems and are two of my favorite poems in the world of poetry.

Thank you.

AngelFaeryKathleen 01/ 2/2008 #

Hi sleepingover 2010, they sound like fun poems, I must go and find them. Hugs :-)

LittleMy 01/ 4/2008 #

I made hand-bound books with blank pages. I would decorate the cover to match the theme but it probably would not have as many pages as a standard spiral-bound book. Would that be ok?

dreamerkins 01/ 4/2008 #

sounds very nice to me. just remember you have to have the poem, or at least some of it, and some art, and still leave room for them to journal in it later.

AngelFaeryKathleen 01/18/2008 #

Hi all, as you may like to do a children's poem rather than Christmas my favorits are -Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll, Hist Whist by E.E. Cummings, The Owl amd the Pussy-Cat by Edward Lear. Hugs :-)

Nell Nere

Here are several of my father's favorite poems ( and the first line or two in case yyou need help inding them on a search engine). He passed away 8 years ago. I am working on a rememberance/tribute altered book for him.

The Story of Augustus, Who Would Not Have Any Soup(Struwwelpeter, by Heinrich Hoffmann) Augustus was a chubby lad; Fat, ruddy cheeks Augustus had; And everybody saw with joy The plump and hearty, healthy boy. He ate and drank as he was told, And never let his soup get cold.

The Road Not Taken Ribert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Robert Frost

WHOSE woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though;

The Cremation of Sam McGee by Robert W. Service

There are strange things done in the midnight sun By the men who moil for gold; The Arctic trails have their secret tales

Todays the last day of the swap. I've sent everyone an email, but forgot to add a link... i don't want to overwhelm with emails, so i won't send another unless i don't hear back from someone who is marked unsent. if you are late sending, please keep your partner informed. and me too, so I can make arrangements if necessary. and not worry, either way. I'm sorry, everyone, that the send day was a Sunday... I forgot about leap year... (note to self, have calender handy when setting up a swap...lol). I hope everyone else has enjoyed making their partners journals as much as I did!
