Description:

Yarn lovers unite and untie!!

Note: Extended deadlines for financial reasons (please see profile). Update: 8/30/11

This is a yarn swap for one of my favorite yarns - premium sock yarn. Natural fiber (wool, alpaca, etc. please avoid cotton) natural fiber must be at least 75% of the content. See below for brands.

Send 1 partner enough sock yarn to make themselves a beautiful new pair of socks for the season. Use yarn from your personal stash or shop for your partner and send a new skein suited to their profile. This is senders choice. Send the yarn that would make you wimper with delight. I'm going to have to do some shopping myself, my stash is getting depleted...goody, goody, goody!

Optional: include a copy of your favorite sock pattern in the package and why you like it.

Guidelines:

Amount - minimum 375 yds

Purchase Value - $25-$30. You are always encouraged to send your partner more!

Due to some additional discussions, I am clarifying the craft store quality below.

Acceptable brands (or similar): handpainted yarns, Noro, Smooshy, Painted Skeins, Jitterbug, Zauberball, Sanguine Gryphon, Shaeffer Anne, Socks that Rock, Cascade Heritage silk, Knit 1 Crochet too (Croc-o-dye), Madeleine Tosh sock, indie-dyers, Happy Feet, Trekking and Jitterbug (others?)

Type from craft store allowed - Absolutely not. Unacceptable brands (ie, if you can purchase it at a craft store assume it is not acceptable for this swap): Kroy, Lion, Red Heart (what others would make you frown if you received it?)

RATED SWAPPERS ONLY No unexplained ratings of 3 or less in last 6 months.

NORTH AMERICA-US and Canada

Sending group swaps no later than the send-by date is considered a swap requirement. In the rare circumstance that you must send late, please contact your partner AND the swap host no later than the send date.

Thank you for your consideration and happy swapping!

I love sock yarn!! Please suggest some of your favorite premium brands for others. I tend to use only those available locally and that's quite limited.

Unfortunately, I have decided to ban newbies from these stash swaps after getting flaked on 4 times in the last 2 and each by newbies.

Some of my favorites: Zauberball, Sanguine Gryphon, Shaeffer Anne, Socks that Rock.

Cascade Heritage silk is nice, Knit 1 Crochet too also has lovely sock yarn (Croc-o-dye), Madeleine Tosh sock...

There are lots of nice indie-dyers, too, beyond those that have been mentioned

I have never tried most of those mentioned - can't wait to trade. Our local shop has some beautiful new hand painted and silk/wool blend brands - I'll write them down next time I'm in. Happy Feet, Trekking and Jitterbug are also some of my favorites.

There has been some discussion and valid points made regarding "craft store yarn". I hope to clarify this by listing some brands in future swaps that have been questioned: Lion and Kroy (to start).

These would NOT be acceptable for a most of my swaps, although Kroy is debatable and Lion does have some very nice newer product lines. For future assume if you had a craft store near you that might carry this product (ie you "could" purchase it at a craft store) - it would not be acceptable. Hope that helps. I want everyone who participates to be pleased with what they receive.

I dont know any of the brands mentioned here, i use cascade sock yarn, is that ok?

MizzKodak 09/18/2011 #

I also dye my own and spin my own too

I can't wait--I've a great source for this swap!

Cascade depends on the partner. The Cascade Heritage silk was a recommendation but the standard Cascade sock was not. I wouldn't consider it a premium fiber, but one of the swappers loves it.
