Description:

This swap is for newbies (experienced ATC makers are still welcome too!). Having been a newbie I know it can be hard to find swaps where you are welcome so you can build up your ratings. So I occasionally host some swaps where newbies are welcome!

You will make 1 ATC for 1 partner. The theme is BUTTERFLIES. If you are new to ATCs in general please know that just a sticker on a card is not enough. You must use embellishments (ribbon, gems, brads, eyelets, 3d items etc). You can use stamped images, cutout images, die cuts, printouts, and more but you must also use embellishments.

You can decorate your ATC anyway you want as long as you include 1 BUTTERFLY.

ATCs are on a thick cardstock, chipboard, or thin cardboard backing. The size is 2.5 in by 3.5 in.

Unrated newbies are welcome and if you have ratings you must have over 4.95. No recent 1's.

Above all have fun creating your swap!

The ATCs I've been making lately are detailed pen drawings with quotes. Are embellishments / 3d items a must? If so I will send a different card.

I just started making ATC's.... Addicting!!! :0) I'm looking forward to this one!

badandknowsit2 07/ 2/2011 #

wierd u say newbies welcome yet you say their not in another spot not a newbie but thats just plain wierd

KawaiiLife 07/ 2/2011 #

Hi I just joined and I am working on my card, but I am pretty new to swap bot, How do I know who to send my ATC to? Thanks again in advance, sorry for the newbie question.

NixNax 07/ 3/2011 #

What was weird about it?

BambooPanda13 07/ 3/2011 #

ATTENTION: I've had people ask how they know who to send to:

On July 10th come back to this swap and there will be a link on the right hand side in the box that will say "See the partners you send to" and it will give you your partner's address. Once you have sent it out click on "Click here when you have sent your items".

I hope that helps, happy swapping!

BambooPanda13 07/ 3/2011 #

@badandknowsit2 I'm not sure what you mean? This swap is for newbies and also open to experienced swappers who might not mind receiving an ATC from a newbie. I only said no recent 1's, but if you're a newbie you will probably only have a few ratings or no ratings which is fine. Having 1's means that you flaked on someone and did not send your item out, that is all. I do host other swaps and depending on the type of swap I may not allow newbies, but that is why I host these specifically for newbies so they can get practice making ATCs, and get ratings. Some people may just be newbies to this site but not to making ATCs so this helps them get their ratings up so they can join other swaps! I just joined in March so I know what it is like to be new on here and looking for swaps you can actually join.

I think in answer to PeasandPearls question, an Artist Trading Card is supposed to be a miniature work of art.

So just slapping a sticker on a piece of patterned paper, or printing an image off the internet and gluing it to some cardboard is not really art because you are not producing something very creative or unique. Not much thought or effort has gone into it, and someone else may well have the same pack of stickers or found the same image on the internet, and produced an almost identical ATC. If you do use stickers or found images, then add extra elements, like glitter or scrapbooking embellishments, so people can see that you have put lots of thought and work into producing something unique.

But if you are an artist and your ATCs are an example of your work, e.g. a drawing or a miniature painting, then I don't think you should feel forced to stick brads through it or glue glitter to it. I think the embellishments rule is mostly for people who are not sure whether what they are producing is art or not!

Yes, Kessie - agreed

BambooPanda13 07/ 6/2011 #

You are right Kessie thanks for answering that!

DonnaLeeDesigns 07/ 7/2011 #

I have never made an ATC, but would like to try it. I enjoy other paper crafts, so hopefully I can create something that my partner will enjoy.

Smurfellie 07/ 8/2011 #

would you mind checking to see that I am actually signed up? I tried to join but then it said I had to verify my email, so i did, and now I cant find the "join swap" icon. I would love to join :) I did a few about 5 or 6 years ago but recently got interested in it again. I would love to have one ATC from every country eventually :)

Smurfellie 07/ 8/2011 #

Oh I found the participant list, im signed up :)

lttleetoile 07/ 8/2011 #

Looking forward to my first ATC! Just learned about them and excited to get into it. One question though - I read that the back should include your name, contact info, and a number, if you want to number your ATC's. Is this correct? Should the back be blank besides this information?

Deeno1105 07/ 9/2011 #

You can give you ATC a title if you want to. Put your name, date, swap name and number it 1 of 1 since you're only making one for one partner. If you had two partners and made them identical, you would number it 2 of 2. Hope this helps.

ADDozier 07/ 9/2011 #

I am a newbie and it won't let me sign up... oh never mind I am already signed up for 5 sorry panda girl!

CupcakeSprinkles 07/10/2011 #

I'm wondering when you're going to assign partners ...It's the 10th already o.O

KawaiiLife 07/10/2011 #

I just emailed you about the partners, I haven't gotten my partner yet either. =)

LavenderSprinkles 07/11/2011 #

hello. i just finished my atc card. where do we sign the front or the back?

drcat68 07/11/2011 #

Help! I just finished my ATC, but I'd like to know if I should write anything on the back of the card...like my name or anything...This is my first ATC, so I'm really trying. Thanks.

PenguinParade 07/11/2011 #

@drcat68 Most people put their name (real and swap-bot name), swap title, date. Some even put contact info (email) and some add their state and/or country.

KawaiiLife 07/11/2011 #

Mine is Sent!

Maddness426 07/11/2011 #

Question: I've seen official atc blanks at the store.. . . If I measure proper can I not buy the blanks?

Maddness426 07/13/2011 #

I have finished mine and am mailing out tomorrow! Work went a bit late and I Missed getting to the post office before it closed! It'll go in the mail tomorrow though!

amara0702 07/15/2011 #

i must say that in my country we don't use inches, we use centimeters. so maybe my ATC will be a little different...

BambooPanda13 07/15/2011 #
  1. You sign, date, put user name, and any other info you want on the back of your card. If you want to sign in the corner on the front you can it is your artwork most people do it on the back though.

  2. You can use cards from the store, cardboard backing from recycled materials, or anything else that is sturdy and not floppy at all, just cut it to 2.5 x 3.5 inches.

Maddness426 07/17/2011 #

I recieved from dustypink! Its absolutely lovely! Is there somewhere we post pictures?

leegermer 07/20/2011 #

Thank you so much for the swap and a wonderful learning experience for a newbie. Sheryl

DaineAlix 08/ 5/2011 #

What's the official dead date? I mean, when should I start feeling like I was flaked on? Sorry, for the weird question I just havent received quite a few swaps yet, including this one and am unsure when to get worried.
