Bear with me, I have an idea but am not sure how to put it down.

Most of us have scanners and whizzbang printers now, so do you have some old family photos, black and white, sepia, which would look good as notecards? Or maybe you have a new image which looks old.

I am not talking the super glossy/ super sophisticated, so professional, it looks like you need three degrees and a chimpanzee to publish it. Just scan your photo, I have a neat one of big brother in his sunhat in 1949, he is now 65 and would kill me if he knew I intend to send his image around the world, but he has to catch me first and he is getting slow in his old age.

Print your image on to a nice, but non glossy thin card stock, maybe textured, (maybe not, maybe white, maybe pale coloured) suitable for a notecard. If your photo is coloured print it as black and white or sepia. Don't embellish your image with stickers, feathers, tags or whatever, just let it stand alone, or give it a simple title.

And please don't break copyright rules, if it is not your photo don't print it. And for those receiving these cards please don't reproduce them as they will be someone else's intellectual property.

Can you make at least three notcards, either of one image (or different if you have them), and put them in an envelope to one partner? (Supply matching envelopes for the notecards if you wish, not compulsory.) Please include a note saying where/when the image was taken and who it is, if you know - not lots of detail

i LOVE this idea Kay! Of course, I am a sucker for other peoples old photos...such stories they conjure! Although the embellished vintage look is lovely, I like the idea of this one being "simple" too-let the photo stand alone and spark your imagination! Thanks for a great swap idea! :)

What size should these note cards be please? Are you talking mini-notecards or a regular size note that is perhaps 4 x 6" ?

Kay 04/ 9/2011 #

I hadn't even thought of size. That is a very good point. The ones I have been toying with have turned out as 4 x 6. I think something along those lines would be good, that is about two to a standard A4 sheet. Slightly smaller or larger would be fine.

Although the idea of minis does intruigue me, maybe for a future swap.

OK then thanks....and another question....can we 'hand color' (or use Photoshop) to tint BW's or sepia prints? Also, I'd love to put some kind of a contrasting background behind the photo itself which I'd probably cut the background out of. Thanks again. :)

saskwoman 04/ 9/2011 #

are these for notecards or more like a postcard??

Kay 04/10/2011 #

Hi Emma paperclip,

I had a preference for black and white or sepia, however see what your partner would like. The hand colouring sounds a great idea for another swap, if you set one up I will be in.

Kay 04/10/2011 #

Hi Saskwoman,

Notecards please, ie folded to form a card with the photo on the front. Smart people could probably print photos inside as well.

AngelFaeryKathleen 04/10/2011 #

Kay, what a great idea, thanks for thinking of it :-)

Kay 04/11/2011 #

Hi Kathleen,

I bet any photo of you in costume would be a marvellous subject for this, printed in sepia.- Not that I am hinting, much.

I would love 2 do this but alas I do not have any ink 4 m y scanner and pity too I have some cool phoyos that would look cool. Can I maybe use original pic's as getting rob to put old photos to a disc so will have them longer the photos are old so would be stored in box and are not real family ones. If could do this could join maybe.

Kay 04/17/2011 #

Hi craftycol.

This is fine by me.

PeNeLoPe 04/19/2011 #

oh this sounds like a cool idea.. i have just made a heritage album for mum, with photos of my g/parents wedding (dating 1902) and other family photos she had found.

Kay 04/20/2011 #

Hi PeNeLoPe,

That was a wonderful present for your Mum, I bet she loves it. I just love digging about in old photos, I am obsessed with spotting family resemblances. It is an interesting thing how even the adopted and foster children who have come into our family seem to look like us.

craftycol 04/24/2011 #

i NOW HAVE ANOTHER PROB A LOT OF MY PIC'S ARE NOT 2 OLD AND CAN'T FIND THE REAL OLD ONES . mOST ARE 1970'S ERA IS THAT OK..?

Kay 04/26/2011 #

Even modern photos look aged if done in B&W. And the 70s was a long time ago, I know, I was there. Lol.

Lauriez 04/26/2011 #

Repurposing old family photos as notecards is a beautiful way to preserve memories and share them with loved ones. It adds a personal touch that digital images can not quite replicate. As for oral testosterone treatment, it can actually help men with low levels feel more balanced and energetic. https://www.rethinktestosterone.com/blog/low-testosterone-in-veterans
