Description:

Happy New Year, Writers. It's a season for quiet afternoons and evenings at the keybroad, creating something. But where to start? Below are a few prompts that can suggest a short story OR maybe a observational piece of writing. Get the words flowing, the ideas and, if you feel like it, the story telling imagination in gear..

Write at least a one page [or more] story or piece of descriptive nonfiction using one of the following prompts as your inspiration. Please note at the beginning which prompt you are using but it does NOT have to appear in what you write unless it fits right in.

  • the car skidded into the snowbank leaving me/her/him gasping

  • A glass of wine, a fire cracking, a cat purring, two people ...

  • A snow day, hurray, now I'll have time to ...

  • The power went out during dinner; with the blizzard howling I thought I'd have to ...

  • Two new year's resolutions broken, what was I thinking?

  • A late Christmas card from him/her, of all people!

We'll have a couple of weeks to write -- but you can start any time, of course. Also, remember, with writing swaps the thing you are rating first of all is that you received it -- if you don't have time to read it or want to finish your own before reading someone else's, you really should rate to say you've got it. Then if it's fantastic you can always add a comment or PM the writer. And most writers love comments, if you're one of them, give the kind of comment you'd like to receive.

As a group swap this is international. If I notice that your rating has fallen below 4.8 I will ban you from the swap. I'm really tired of VERY late swaps and flaked swaps. Of course, I'll angel anyone who is flaked on but it really shouldn't happen.

My story is done. Just waiting for partners! I saw one of the prompts and it immediately prompted a scene. :)

Because it's summer here in NZ I will have to look a long way back, Hee hee :-)

Got my page done and can't wait to mail it out to my partners. :)

Funny. I put this on my watchlist days ago, thinking "I probably won't join as none of those prompts really moves me." This morning I was sifting through the watch list, read the description again and POW. A scene pops up in my mind. :) So I'm in!

I'll probably have it written by the end of the week.
