Description:

! Edited to increase gathering time and reduce sign up time.! When you sign up please post what size pages you would like to receive here in the thread.

This swap is in honor of a great blog I've found recently giddygiddy.com. If you'll follow the link listed here with the swap you'll see the concept that I've chosen to swap with.

To fulfill this swap you will have to include two things:

A) fill a manila envelope (at least 6x9" in size) with 25 pieces of paper that can be used to journal or draw on. The "pieces" of paper should be something that you can write or draw on both sides or put other things into. Take examples from the giddygiddy Poor Man's Journal. Ask your swap partner what size journal they would like to make and base your papers around that.

B) Provide your partner with a list of at least ten really good journal prompts to help them get their journaling started.

So just to clarify, should we actually make the journal or send papers and have our partner assemble it? This sounds fun either way!! ♥The funkier the papers the better as far as I'm concerned♥

fairyoflostthings 01/10/2011 #

JavaJunkie:

We are just sending papers and journal prompts. Since people like their journals bound in different ways I thought that would be easier.

robotlove 01/10/2011 #

How many sheets of paper should we send for this?

JavaJunkie 01/11/2011 #

Thanks fairyoflostthings! I have some great papers to send to my lucky partner... just need to know how many pages the journal should be in all and who to send to! ♥

JavaJunkie 01/11/2011 #

TO MY PARTNER: 5 x 7 is my usual fave. And the crazier the paper the better! ♥

fairyoflostthings 01/12/2011 #

RobotLove:

It wouldn't be normal paper so cost should be minimal. If you've looked at the link you'll see that the example uses things that would have been laying around the house.

In addition there are some really awesome and free printable things online.

This is more of a stuffed envelope swap than a "how many" thing. So give as much as you'd like to receive.

fairyoflostthings 01/12/2011 #

I'm thinking of making the time to sign up smaller and the time that we have knowing our partners longer.

Would there be any objections???

JavaJunkie 01/12/2011 #

fairyoflostthings, that's fine. Still wondering how many pages though???

fairyoflostthings 01/12/2011 #

I've edited the swap to reflect a last day to sign up of Jan 19th and a send out of Feb 12th.

That should give plenty of time to gather pages that are interesting, useful, and recycled as well as writing really good journal prompts.

I also added a definitive number of pages so that we can agree on the fulfillment of the swap. If I was sent more than 25 pages and 10 journal prompts, I would be giving a heart for certain.

Leashah 01/12/2011 #

Can we alter papers to make them journal-able? Like, if I have book pages, I can add a more writing-friendly piece of cardstock/paper on it and use the book page as a sort of...mat?

grandmaroro 01/12/2011 #

Has anyone else tried going to "giddygiddy.com."? I tried last night and again this morning and today I got a shop selling baby hair clips. While they are adorable, they are not even close to a journal. What am I doing wrong?

fairyoflostthings 01/12/2011 #

Leashah:

I say yes! That would be cool!

Grandmaroro:

Here's the address that goes right to the journal on the giddygiddy.com blog. http://blog.giddygiddy.com/giddygiddy/2010/04/poor-mans-journal.html

robotlove 01/12/2011 #

Oh, I wasn't really concerned with the cost of shipping, just more concerned with not sending enough papers. That and not giving a minimum of pages to be sent kind of leaves room for people to someone to send as little as they want.

Thanks for answering though.

Leashah 01/12/2011 #

@robotlove the description reads "25 pieces of paper". Hope that clarifies the minimum! :)

robotlove 01/12/2011 #

^^-for people*

@Leashah Yeah, I'd already noticed. :)

fairyoflostthings 01/13/2011 #

-happy dance- YAY! More people!

I should try doing this swap on my other craft board and see what happens there!

JavaJunkie 01/13/2011 #

Can't wait!! Gathering papers already...

Leashah 01/13/2011 #

So, we need to make this our partner's desired size, right?

anxious/impatient

fairyoflostthings 01/13/2011 #

Personally I will be asking my partner what size journal pages they would like to receive.

Or we could just all say what size they want here and be surprised.

Personally I'd like all sizes of paper because I have several journals that I'll be adding these papers to.

grandmaroro 01/13/2011 #

Thanks for the address. I appreciated seeing the completed book.

Like fairyoflostthings. I would like papers of all sizes. I so look forward to this swap. My daughter told me about it. I can hardly wait.

And, just because, I will offer to bind the journal for my partner.

fairyoflostthings 01/13/2011 #

grandmaroro, that's so sweet of you!

babynavyblue 01/14/2011 #

For my papers I will take either 3"x5",or 4"x6", ^_^

fairyoflostthings 01/14/2011 #

Just so everyone knows, I extended the send outs a couple more days at the private suggestion of a couple of people.

I also wanted to say that I am really excited about this swap. I hope everyone really enjoys it!

Does anyone have any links that they could share about binding the pages?

Tryph 01/15/2011 #

Preferences: Smaller (3x5 or 4x6ish) over larger, but as long as they are close to uniform, I'll take whatever comes your way!

sahvi 01/16/2011 #

I would like either 5x7 most, but will be happy with 4x6 as well. 5x7 just gives me extra binding room. But I won't rate down for 4x6. I realize this depends on the kind of paper you have and all that.

Leashah 01/16/2011 #

I don't have much preference on size...

And I have no idea how I'm going to bind mine. Grandmaroro, be my partner! :P

igobylorib 01/17/2011 #

Great idea. I'd like any pre sized pages left as is, i.e: book pages, receipts, etc. If you need to cut down to size, I'd like 8" x 10"

dkay 01/18/2011 #

I am thinking about this one. The postage would be bad if I got someone who wanted 8x10, I am thinking that would have to go in a box because 25 pages won't fit in a manilla envelope....I think.

igobylorib 01/18/2011 #

I've used a 9x12 envelope and have fit more than 25 sheets.

marthy 01/19/2011 #

I just finished a 'poor man's journal' for circulation in my local art group, and I love it! It's 7" x 8", with a sewn binding, and a cover made from an experimental piece done in a recent abstract art workshop, through the same group. I've lots more papers, and since this was the inspiration for my own journal, I want to play! 8" x 10" is good for me, as I'd like to do a smaller book this time, maybe 4" x 6", or 5" square...

fairyoflostthings 01/20/2011 #

Hey all! I just assigned partners. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. Have fun!

robotlove 01/20/2011 #

Preferably, I would love either 5'' x 7'' or 5'' x 5'' square (like the one used in the blog). n_n

pmj1959 01/20/2011 #

To my partner... i'm good with papers of all sizes. thank you so much!

terrimamma 01/20/2011 #

i would be happy with any size papers. i've never done this kind of thing before&can't wait! thanks for hosting fairyoflostthings!

cardml 01/20/2011 #

I would love either 4x6 or 5x7.

TheArtfulDogger 01/20/2011 #

I'm happy with any size of paper!

ncfriend 01/22/2011 #

any size thank you!

marthy 02/22/2011 #

Just so's you know: I thought I'd mailed this last week, but found it in the car this a.m....it's in the mail now, and I've messaged my partner...also changed the 'sent' to 'unsent' and back, so the date (late as it is) is accurate. Anyhow... this was a great swap!
