Description:

After some time off, this swap is back again. Ready for another round?

This is such a simple quilt block and it's definitely addictive!! So get out your scraps and leftover jelly roll strips and join us. This swap is for all levels of quilters. It doesn’t matter - you just need to be accurate

You will be making 4 blocks each for your 2 partners (a total of 8 blocks). You will also send along 5(five) "strings" of fabric, each at least 12" long, for each of your partners' stash.

INSTRUCTIONS:

We will use the foundation fabric method. This means that we use a piece of muslin or flannel as the base for our square, to stabilize the square and also to make it easier to put it together. Please use this method – do not use the paper piecing method. The blocks we are making will be 6 ½ inches, when finished. I would recommend that you make your fabric base about 7 inches, so that if there is any “shrinkage” due to sewing, there is a bit of extra room to compensate for it, and you can just trim the squares after you are done.

REMINDERS:

--- It is very important to iron each strip down as you sew it.

--- The same fabric can only be used in a square 2 times.

--- The squares are supposed to be scrappy. The scrappier the better! So please don’t try to coordinate things. Just grab a strip and sew.

--- Strips should VARY IN WIDTH, BUT BE NO WIDER THAN 1 ½ inches UNFINISHED (BEFORE being sewn down). This will allow for the squares to have about 10-14 different fabrics each.

--- Please use decent quality 100% cotton fabric.

RULES (sorry about that):

--- You must have a rating of at least 4.90 with no “1”s in the last 3 months.

--- You need to have at least 10 mailed/package swaps that you have been rated for.

--- I will review each profile before partners are assigned, and reserve the right to remove you from the swap if need be.

--- If there are “circumstances”, email me and we will try to work things out.

Newbies, if you are interested in a private swap, let me know.

I will angel this if needed, but I will not be happy about it. I will let everyone else know about it, and will ban you from any future swaps.

Also, you don't really need to wait til partners are assigned. So get out the old machine, and have some fun!!! Hope you will join us!!

i'm new at quilting but have done the blocks in the past swaps, but what is a "string"?

also send along 5(five) "strings" of fabric, each at least 12" long, for each of your partners' stash.

i'm not familiar with that...thanks for letting me ask a stupid question.

beancounter17 11/ 2/2010 #

A "string" is a strip of fabric that can be used to make the blocks. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Been waiting for another string block. I'm in.

beancounter17 11/ 7/2010 #

Someone asked if the 4 blocks are supposed to be sewn together. NO. Sorry if the swap pic made this confusing.

alysowl 11/ 8/2010 #

Is wonkyness ok or must we be very careful to keep the strings straight?

beancounter17 11/10/2010 #

I think that some wonkiness adds "character" to a block, but it is up to you. Just remember, what you send to others should be something that YOU would be happy to receive,

Mine are done and ready to mail. These go together SO quickly!
