Description:

My local library just had their annual book sale & I lucked out with some great coffee table books, vintage books, foreign books & kids books! I have tons of pages just dying to be made into envies.

For this swap, we will send our partners 5 handmade envelopes each, made from book pages or other ephemera (maps, children books, old sheet music, travel brochures, etc.). The envies don't have to be the same size, but at least 3 must be mail-able size. If any are from particularly interesting sources, include a note to tell your partner about it.

Not a profile-specific swap, so you can start anytime. Usual swap rules apply; open to all members in good standing. (I check often, so that's everyone!)

i LOVE making envies, but am a little clueless on what ephemera is? I know that it's kind of the "throw away" stuff, but how old does it need to be? Surely a current travel brochure is not good enough, so what would you classify as acceptable ephemera?

Yes, the newbie asked :)

Just found this yesterday and think it might be fun to share :)

"Ephemera is transitory written and printed matter not intended to be retained or preserved. Some collectible ephemera are advertising trade cards, airsickness bags, bookmarks, catalogues, greeting cards, letters, pamphlets, postcards, posters, prospectuses, stock certificates, tickets and zines. Decks of personality identification playing cards from the war in Iraq are a recent example."

I think a travel brochure qualifies (for me anyway). Old sheet music, ledger paper, maps, etc. Sides from food boxes? Anything that you think would make a neat envie!

Ah..one question. What are "mailable sizes"?

tiggerkitn25 10/26/2010 #

I know that in the USA it must be at least 3.5" by 5" to be mailed through the postal system.

You're correct @tiggerkitn25

No mini envies for this swap. Maybe next time :)
