Description:

This swap is for knitters and crocheters who like to watch movies as they do their thing with sticks and hooks.

Read your partner's profile to find out whether they prefer to knit or crochet, and their preferred colors. Then put together a nice little package for them that includes the following:

*A DVD (technology limitations necessarily limit our swap participation - sorry international friends!) - used DVDs are OK but put it in your own player first to make sure it plays properly. Remember this is a movie for crafting to so maybe skip the foreign/subtitled section, eh?

*A simple knit/crochet kit including a pattern, enough yarn to complete the pattern, and at least one knit/crochet tool or accessory (needles/hook, measuring tape, stitch markers, etc). Please keep in mind copyright law, and don't photocopy books from your library. Free internet patterns are OK, but not the one that everyone and their dog has made a dozen times.

*A snacky treat

Now for the tricky bit - for extra credit - tie the movie and the project together with some sort of theme. For example - perhaps you purchase some yarn made from camel hair, and the movie is ... oh, you know that desert epic that's so awful I can't remember the name. Or maybe the yarn colorway is called "Child's Play" and the movie is "Daddy Daycare." See how that works? Be as creative with this as you want to be!

If you are participating in the "extra credit" phase of the swap, read on! One week after the send date, or after your partner has confirmed receipt (whichever comes first), come back to this swap and enter a comment with a link to a photo of the package you sent. Explain what it was about your theme that made it so wonderful. Or - recipients - feel free to nominate your sender. At 2 weeks after the send date, I'll review all the entries and send a knit/crochet themed profile surprise to the person who I think has best captured the essance of this swap.

A few notes:

Plan to send yarn with a retail value of about $15 - $20 US.
Swapping from your stash is OK, but don't send anything cruddy that you don't want to receive yourself. No label-less mystery balls; no Lion Brand, Caron Simply Soft, YarnBee, Joann Sensations, Michael's House Brand, etc. unless your partner's profile specifically indicates it's their favorite brand of yarn ever.

This is a swap for outstanding swappers - no flakers! I will ban after signups close. I will be looking for evidence in your profile that you know how to read your partner's profile and put together a nice package.

This truly sounds like the funnest swap ever! Thank you so much for starting such a great idea of a swap...I can't wait for this one :-)

Actually copywrite doesn't prevent you from photocopying a pattern and sending it on so long as you are not selling it or mass distributing it or republishing it. Copying it and sending it to one person falls within reasonable use.

Thanks so much Knitting Cateling for changing the send by date! I really appreciate it!

LOVE this idea!!!

My current yarn obsession--and alas, the only yarn my sensitive skin can tolerate--is Lorna's Laces Shepherd sock yarn; two skeins is enough for a pair. Although fall colors would be great, I don't really care about the colorway (no Sassy Stripes, please); anything variegated by LL is beautiful!

Look in the Gallery Slideshow for my photo. I sent a package with yarn called "Pin Stripes," the movie The Firm, and blue stitch markers. It has, obviously, a business/ executive/ corporate theme. Enjoy!
