Description:

My first handmade envelope swap had a great turnout with 36 participants; that’s 36 people who are now hopefully brightening up the postal systems throughout the world with colorful envelopes.

Envelopes are so fun and super easy to make! Plus, we all use them in the swaps we send.

Templates: There are all sorts of ways to get them, but I’ll share my favorite: Take an envelope you already own and carefully take it apart. Trace it onto a piece of cardstock, cardboard, etc., cut it out, and now you are ready to make envelopes! I’m sure once you try this method, you’ll start looking all envelopes in a new way.

What to make envelopes out of: my favorites include pretty scrapbook paper and calendar pages. (Note: If you make them out of a paper that’s really thin, you might want to glue that paper to another piece before you trace/cut your envelope. This will allow it to withstand the postal system.) When mailing my envelopes, I usually add some clear packing tape to reinforce the sides.

Swap details:

• You will make and send 5 envelopes to each of your 3 partners. The envelopes should be no smaller than the minimum allowed by United States Postal System (5” long X 3 1/2” high). Other than that, you can make them as large as you want to.

• Please add a note card or letter to one of the envelopes, telling them a bit about you and/or your day. This card can be handmade or store-bought. Do not seal this envelope so your partner can use still use it.

• Sender’s choice on envelope colors/patterns/designs.

Do you send them all out or just send 1 out with 4 in it?

ArtyBeth3 08/14/2010 #

@IgotBittenbythePugBUG you make 5 envelopes and put them into another envelope for mailing to your partners. Each of your partners will receive 5 usable envelopes from you.

I joined Handmade Envelopes #1. I probably don't really need to join this one again, but will anyway. Its so fun to make and receive handmade envelopes :)

:( I will be on vacation during those dates

shafarina 08/18/2010 #

I wish I could ask my partners to send me specific envelopes using specific papers? Thanks.

ArtyBeth3 08/26/2010 #

@mauiwahine one can never have too many handmade envelopes (smile)!

@TryshaH81 well I'm sure I'll host another one of these in a few months. Perhaps we need a Christmas one :)

@Shafarina this one is sender's choice, but perhaps your partner will look at your profile to see what you like.

Hand made envies are one of the best things I've done on SwapBot - it works well with cruising the thrift stores for suitable books! I'm so looking forward to it - and yes, ArtBeth3 - a Christmas one would be fun! ... Q

I will have to check my envie template at home to see if it is standard requirements. I got it online. I could do with some fancy envies for posting instead of the usual boring white, hehe

be aware that anne510 is a flaker she knew that the package she owes me was for a child and its bad enough to flake on someone but a child this is ridiculous. And claims to do what Jesus would do and all into religion if thats what christians are all about we all in trouble

Badandknowsit2, it's always good to get a heads up about flakers. However, I noticed that she hasn't logged on to swapbot since August 31st. Considering her multiple 5.0 ratings, I tend to believe something has just come up in her personal life. I don't know her and don't believe I've ever swapped with her, but it just seems something different than her purposely flaking.

It's not really appropriate to comment regarding her Christian faith, as it wouldn't be if she were Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, etc. None of us are perfect, and our religious preferences don't make us so, though most encourage us to be better than our naturally selfish selves. If Anne510 doesn't come through in the next week or two, I would love to send the swap to your niece. It is harder to watch a child not get a swap.
