Description:

I spend a lot of time listening to NRP, and one of my favorite programs is This I Believe (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4538138). The basics of the program, for those not familiar, is that people will write essays telling what they believe. Sometimes the beliefs have to do with their person. Sometimes it's with the world at large. There are religious beliefs, fantastic beliefs, beliefs in life, love, the goodness of mankind... you name it, it's fair game.

It always makes me curious about the types of beliefs others that I know (even tangentially, like through Swap-Bot) would write about if given the chance. So that's where this swap comes from.

In this swap, you will have 1 partner. You'll write at least a two page letter describing what you believe. The letters can be hand written or printed, whatever works best for you. But they will be snail-mailed rather than e-mailed.

This is an international swap, open to anyone and everyone. I will angel (or accept others to angel if they'd like) if anyone gets flaked on. This is my first swap to host, so please be gentle! :)

edit Remember, this is about people's beliefs and your partner may have different beliefs than you, so read their beliefs with an open mind - even if they don't believe the same as you, you're learning a bit about them and that's never a bad thing!

is this a combination of beliefs or just one that we are really strong about? either way, i'm in ^_^ just want to make sure! Great writing topic!

Thank you! And as for the topic, however you want to write it. It's about you and what you believe, so if many of them combine together for you, that works. Or if one is really strong and that's what you want to write about, that works too.

I actually wrote and submitted an essy for This I Believe, but it wasn't chosen for the program.

That's cool, lob! I've thought about doing it myself, but I've always been a little too nervous to submit.

I'm glad to see it! I hope you have a lot of fun with it. (And that goes for everyone, honestly!)

I checked out their website and ended up doing an essay for them. I thought it was great how, after you do your essay of 500 words or less-they ask you how you felt about doing the essay, with the answer to be in 800 words or less. It was so such a great felling to be able to let such deep thought come pouring out! I'm ready to do it again!! Thank you for the swap!!

After getting my "I Believe" letter today, I think we need a follow-up swap where we write back to our partners about what we believe about what they said AND to learn more about how this person came to believe what they do. Really cool swap!

I sent out my letter today :) I haven't received one yet but I'm really looking forward to it. I love your idea Tia, you should start that swap! :) For me it was so cathartic....just following one thought to another to another...for about 3 typewritten pages worth lol
