Description:

Cats need to always have new toys, and what better toys than ones that were made by hand with love?

This swap is for one hand-made toy to be sent to one partner.

I will ban anyone with 2 or more No Sends, or with a Swap-Bot rating less than 4.7.

And please note that this is a World Wide swap, so if you don't want to pay the shipping charges to get it across the world, please don't sign up.

And always remember to rate your partner!

Happy swapping! I hope you enjoy it!

:-)

RULES:

1) This is a one for one swap. You send ONE item to ONE person.

2) Your item must be hand made, even if that means you just glue a bunch of pompoms to each other to make it look vaguely like a mouse! But I would prefer it if there was some time and thought put into them.

3) You must be part of Swap-Bot, you must have an in-depth profile, and you must have a rating of 4.7 or more with no more than ONE No Send. I won't ban you from the Flickr group, but I will ban you from the swap.

4) Please tell us a little about your cat(s) in the Here's Me! thread on Flickr.

5) Please post pictures of what you make and receive in the group pool in Flickr.

6) Not everyone in the swap must have a Flickr account, but it is recommended so you can post pictures there.

7) Newbies are welcome, but please have an in depth profile.

8) Coordinator is not responsible for lost or not sent packages.

So, some of my suggestions for making cat toys:

Avoid string and ribbon. Thicker rope, yes (1/4" or thicker), but string, especially loose string, can be swallowed and cause digestive tract problems. There's a type of coarse rope (also used in parrot toys) that cats love to scratch on.

Find out if your partner has a kitten or a cat-- different toys are appropriate for different felines. My cat, at 18+ lbs., needs toys that can really take a beating (fortunately, that means cheaper materials, usually)! A smaller kitten should be given toys that won't seem huge (and frightening) to her little eyes.

About 1/3 of all cats don't respond to catnip. Does yours?

Many cats love wool, especially for chewing. Before sending a wool item, find out if the owner is trying to dissuade kitty from wool-biting.

Cheap, scratchy acrylic yarn feels scritchy on cat claws. My cats generally love playing with toys made of acrylic yarn (finally! A use for RedHeart!)

Some cats respond with fear to noise-making toys, while others view them as eminently pounce-able. I often include a dog-toy squeaker in my home-made toys, so the cat has a "mousie noise" to give them something to think about at playtime.

One favorite toy from my previous cats: A home-made strawberry stuffie. About the size of a toy mouse, but a little smaller, and it rolled better. Joy!

If you drink a lot of milk, collect the rings from the lids for the duration of the swap, glue or zip-tie them together, and mail them to your recipient's cat!

Similarly, if you use toilet paper, save the rolls (same reason) and attach your homemade toy to one!
