Description:

Some mail days are so boring. All you get is a bill for the phone and a flyer from Crazy Bob's Discount Hair Plugs. So with some creative mojo, let's brighten up the mailbox of our partner.

First thing you will need is a clear envelope - You can use a plastic page sleeve or similar, cut in half. It should be clear clear clear.

Second thing you'll need is an assortment of things. THINGS! Ribbon, paper, buttons.. anything flat that can slip into your clear envelope.

Since we're talking rainbows, once you pack everything in you should be able to see Red, Yellow, Pink, Blue, Purple, Orange and Green.

Finally, seal your envelope or pocket, and stick a label on it for the addressing and stamps. No need to make life hard for the postmen.

Let's recap!

  • Your envelope (either half a page protector or two bits of clear plastic taped up good) should be at least 10x15 cm (4 x 6 inches) but can be bigger.

  • You can use anything flat to fill your envelope, but please don't send dirty or torn items. Send what you'd love to receive.

  • There should be at least one thing from each of the colours.

  • The address and return address should be written on paper or labels and stuck on, otherwise the postal machines will get sad.

  • All items sent are Senders Choice.

Let's aim for gorgeous packets of colour!

This sounds like such fun! Going to watch for now, I'd be more inclined to join if we could move the send-by date back just a week.Just for my own selfish reasons.... REALLY BUSY and also REALLY BROKE during the end of May/beginning of June. But I love the idea, and if I miss it this time around I hope we'll have another one!

just to make sure, the post office is ok with us sending a practically all-plastic envie? you know how they like to round-date and stamp things with ink, lol.

Thank you for hosting Frogglin!!! Sounds like a great swap!

And @sduckson - I send stuff in clear envies all the time...and they're handmade!!

Frogglin 05/21/2010 #

@sduckson that's why we need to put a sticker under the stamps. It'll be fine.

weeatcrayons or someone: could you post a pic of what it should look like? Unsure what sticker under stamp means. Very cool idea, I think the colors would look beautiful in a clear envie.

To make sure the stamps attach properly, and are clear for the readers, I'd suggest either using a blank address sticker on the envelope, then putting the stamps onto that. A separate sticker would be used for the address, does that make sense?

Depending on what your envelope is made of, you may be able to glue paper on to it for this. It's just to make sure the address and stamps can be easily read by the sorting machines.

Frogglin, Thank you for the tips!

Would it be okay if we sent our clear envie inside of another envelope? I once sent a mail art envie inside a clear envie & someone at the post office opened it, ripped stuff off of the mail art & then it was returned to me with postage due!! (The stamp was on the outside, on the clear envie.)

Sorry for the questions.. The clear envies like this I see you listed flat items. Do you mean flat like the envelope so only things like paper, or would it be okay to mail things like buttons, brads, beads, charms, etc?

iLoveMail 06/ 3/2010 #

I think I get it now. The one I sent before had items that were glued on; maybe that's why. Still, it was all within a clear, sealed envelope.

Frogglin 06/ 5/2010 #

Sorry I'm slow responding guys, my internet has been dead.

You can pop anything into your envelope that won't make it too fat to process, so buttons, small beads, ribbons etc are all fine.

The envelope should be sent as is, so it arrives cheerfully!

@kimbeewa you're too kind :)

junieandj 06/ 6/2010 #

Frogglin, thanks for the response!! I'm sorry you are having computer troubles that is frustrating. I think these envies are going to be beautiful!!

junieandj 06/ 7/2010 #

another question: should items just be loose in envie, or should they be taped so they don't slide in envie?

Kimbeewa 06/10/2010 #

I put all my items in loose.
