Description:

For this swap you will be faking cloisonne as the main element of your ATC. Split Coast Stampers has a great tutorial. I know there are other ways to do this (which I think sound far too faffy) so we'll work with the glossy magazine version this time (as shown in link above)

So the main details are:

2 ATC's

1 partner

Use faux cloisonne technique

Have fun

As this is senders choice you can start right away :)

If there is enough interest I'd love to do a series of fake techniques

Any questions please PM me. As this is a group swap no requirements but I do reserve the right to ban anyone who I feel may flake.

I have everything to give this a whirl, except an Embossing Buddy. What the heck is that?

It's a little bag that has some type of powder in it. . . you use it to rub over the area you want to emboss and it helps keep any embossing powder from sticking to an area other than where it's been inked. . .sometimes when you emboss, the little flecks show up on places other than what was inked and then when you heat the area, they show up, so this handy little bag helps keep that from happening. You can get them at most craft stores or order them from a place that sells embossing powder.

some tips I found in the comments for this tutorial

Linda A-You can wipe the paper with a dryer sheet if you don't have Embossing Buddy. It takes the static out of the paper.

karixma-Or you can use a thin baby sock filled with corn starch. Fill sock, sew openend closed or tie closed or close with rubber band.

does it HAVE to be gold embossing powder?

stitchinwitch 04/27/2010 #

Some tutorials use black or silver. To be honest a gold outline sticker would work as well (thinking of folks who may not have embossing powder/ heat gun)

awesome. good to know.

OK, so are we embossing or using stickers now? I am confused as I went and bought the gun, powder, stamps, ink and everything for this swap because it sounded like something I really wanted to get into. So if someone is just going to use a sticker thingy I would be disappointed I think, I hope that doesn't sound bad or anything but I really try to do my best work and this technique sounds really fun.

I will be honest and say I would rather people used heat embossing as I think it looks better, but, at the same time I know how expensive it can be to buy the stuff and didn't want to put anyone off it

I understand, sorry I must have sounded really rude, I promise I wasn't trying to be, it's just that I am really excited about this technique is all. I am sure whatever I get will be lovely as this is a great group, and I have played around with the embossing and it is so much fun!

@NaughtyElf I understand. I would be disappointed too if I got a sticker outline. Not that there's anything wrong with sticker outlines. They can be very effective in the right place but I too bought gold embossing powder especially for this swap. However if my partner has already sent it out don't worry.
