Creative Journaling Kit

Create a lovely kit for your partner for their journaling needs.

Your kit should be enclosed in a box or bag that is sturdy and decorative enough to keep their supplies in. The kit container is a big part of this swap, as it is intended to be reused, so don’t skimp. An altered lunchbox, cosmetic bag or childs tackle box are all good suggestions. Be creative. This should be something nice enough to be displayed on their desk, yet practical enough to be placed in their totebag for journaling on the go.

You will need to choose at least 6 ITEMS from the list below. If you want to add extras that aren’t on the list, that is fine, but you must also INCLUDE 6 LIST ITEMS. Many of these items will need to be purchased. I am not setting a price limit as some people are better bargain-hunters. :) But please don’t skimp on quality items. These kits are meant for adults, so while its fun to be whimsical and use crayola products sometimes, please do NOT send a box of childrens supplies.

You do NOT need to include a journal…just the supplies

LIST ITEMS:

· Glitter, fluorescent, milky and/or marbled gel pens

· Set of watercolor pencils

· Set of colored pencils

· Mini Stapler

· Set of water soluble oil pastels for backgrounds

· glue stick or double-sided tape

· A 4x6 decorated card with ten written prompts; the short, open-ended kind. EXAMPLES: "I feel most contented when…," or "Today is a day of...".

· a set of small alphabet stamps or alphabet stencils

· two small rubber stamps (if unmounted, be sure to include an acrylic block)

· dye ink pad

· blender pen for transfers

· glassine envelopes

· assortment of parcel tags

· Smencils

· Disposable camera

· Three small handmade envelopes

Rules: You will make 1 kit for 1 partner This is senders Choice. Hopefully, swappers will use their partners profile as a guide, but please do not rate the sender poorly if they don’t send your favorite color.

This is regional.USA only. I will not change this because of postage, customs, etc. Ratings of 4.9 or above please. AND must have over 20 completed swaps.

If you have any questions, Please don’t hesitate to ask.

NOTE: The photo above is one taken from Michelle Wards blog. At one time she challenged her readers to make similar kits. (Challenge 17) Read about the challenges that she does here: http://michelleward.typepad.com/howcoolis_that/

♥AMAZING♥ idea...

lovelyred203 03/30/2010 #

can it be just a pretty box?? or does it need to be an expensive one that's real sturdy? How about a photo holder box from a craft store that is decorative?

pandessa 03/30/2010 #

lovelyred good idea on the photo box! If she says yes, I am watching this one and may join.

MichelleZ 03/30/2010 #

I would say that the box has to be sturdy....but definitely doesn't have to be expensive!

A photobox may work. Some are nicer than others, so make sure it'd be something that you'd like to receive yourself. ...and HAVE FUN! :)

What are 'Smencils'? Are they fragranced pencils??? This looks like a great idea & loads of fun.

MichelleZ 03/30/2010 #

Smencils are pretty cool. They are made of 100% recycled newspapers and smell awesome. Not only do they smell good, when you write with them a faint scent is left behind. A great writing tool. They are for sale at Michaels and other similar stores. You can check them out at http://www.smencils.com/

this is a lovely swap...! I'm a little stuck on the container, mostly about size... I get that it needs to be 'sturdy' but in the description it also states 'something they can throw in their tote for journaling on the go' (I'm paraphrasing)... is there a size range...? or am I being just a little too daft....

MichelleZ 03/31/2010 #

No size range. And you're right, the container is a challenge. Thats why its an important part of the swap.

I wouldnt go too large. A photobox is probably the largest I'd go. And that may be pushing it. I do like the idea of putting it in my totebag.

Other ideas are those brown paper mache boxes at craft stores. Those come in different sizes. Or what about a childs purse? An old candy tin? Or???

And you're not too daft!! It IS a challenge :) Good Luck!

Cool swap idea. Are you planning to eventually host an international version later? Or is there anyone interested in an international private swap?

MichelleZ 03/31/2010 #

Emkay...I will not be hosting an international version. These will be too expensive to mail out of the country. However....Kayleena will be hosting a Canadian version. Keep watching for it!

Are glassine envelopes cello bags?

lovelyred203 04/ 4/2010 #

I am going to watch and may decide to join this later :)

MichelleZ 04/ 5/2010 #

Sorry it took a few days to answer your question...holiday weekend with the family :)

Anyway... Pandessa: glassine envelopes arent cello bags. They are small thin translucent envelopes often used by stamp collectors. Because of their small size, they work wonderfully with journals. Cello bags are much larger. I'm not sure how they would work for journals.

Hope this helps!

Do we have to send watercolor PENCILS only or can I send a nice set of watercolor paints instead? I found some really cool metallic/pearly watercolors at Michael's and want to send them to my partner.

MichelleZ 04/15/2010 #

Hi...About the watercolors...that is completely up to you. But if you include them, you might want to consider a small water bottle or something so that they can have everything handy. or not...LOL...whatever you think works :)
