Description:

I got this idea while sticking bags of tea inside a journal for a different swap - how about a journal completely devoted to tea?

Include at least ten different types of tea, taped to the pages of the journal. Try sending some of the following categories of tea:

1 - Morning tea

2 - Afternoon pick-me-up tea

3 - Dinner tea

4 - Bedtime tea

5 - "When you need to relax" tea

6 - "When you need to be awake or focused" tea

7 - "When you're sick" tea

8 - A weird or unusual tea

9 - A tea you want to try but haven't yet

10 - A tea you don't like but can't seem to get rid of

11 - A friend or partner's favorite tea

12 - Your absolute favorite tea

Your teas do not have to match the above categories, these are just a suggestion! You can also include multiple types of tea per category. If you wish to include loose leaf tea, please measure it into a filter bag and seal it so that the recipient can use it like any other tea bag.

For each tea you include, write the following information:

  • Name of the tea

  • Brand

  • Type of tea (black, green, rooibush, white, etc)

  • Any special steeping or serving instructions

  • Your favorite thing about it

  • Anything else interesting about it: where you found it, an interesting story, something that happened while drinking it, etc.

Please use a 5x7" journal or composition notebook for this swap. Decorate your journal front and back with either a tea theme or ideas from your partner's profile. Look to their profile for color preferences. You will probably need to tie a ribbon or something around your journal to keep it shut once you are done. Make sure you stick the tea in with an adhesive that allows the tea to be removed and used, like scotch tape. Feel free to decorate your journal pages as well, make them fun!

Also include a page with a short letter to your partner - introduce yourself! Feel free to include extra pages of artwork, tea, or writing if you wish.

I suggest staggering the positioning of the tea bags so that page 1 has the bag at the top of the page, page 2 has it in the middle, page 3 has it on the bottom, and repeat until the end. This will help your journal be less bulky and close easier.

All tea is sender's choice! However, please check your partner's profile for food allergies. It's one thing to send a tea someone might not like - it's another to send one that could be dangerous!

Apologies for making this US-only, I'm worried that shipping will be prohibitive. If someone else would like to host this swap for other regions, I'm fine with it, just give me a mention and link to this swap in the swap description.

As journal swaps are quite intensive, I'm requiring at least ten non-electronic swaps, a well filled out profile and no recent unexplained 1s or 3s. If you have questions or want to request special permission to participate, please PM me and we'll try to work something out. The signup deadline is a long way away, so you should have no trouble completing 10 swaps by then.

I will angel this swap if someone gets flaked on, but you have over a month to do this swap, so it shouldn't be a problem! :)

This is a really cute idea. Bravo. Too bad I don't like tea! ^laugh^

Beautiful idea! I hope you guys have fun, I would have joined if this was an international swap :)

Great Idea.. I'm already put some thought to it and looking at my stockpile of tea...
( international swap might be hard with countries that have restrictions)..

@savannahjan I'll be making a candy-themed one in the future - maybe that will be more up your alley? Hope so!

Really glad to see there's interest in this project! I'm excited to see what comes of it. :)

Candy? FUN! :)

Quick question? Most journals that I come across have 25 pages or more in them. So you are saying we would need to put 25 bags of tea in the journal one per page? Or if you can tell me where you find journals with only 10 pages in it I could look. Thanks.

Miditron 03/25/2010 #

It's fine if your journal has blank, unused pages in it. You only need to include 10 types of tea (though more is welcome!). I'll reword the swap so it's a bit clearer!

Thanks for responding back. I think I will go ahead and join then.

I wish this was available to Canadians. I think this would be so fun to do. Maybe you wouldn't mind if I did a Canadian version?

Miditron 04/10/2010 #

You're definitely free to host a Canadian version! Just give me a mention and go for it. :)

I waffled about whether to make it US and Canada or not, but flat rate envelopes more than double in cost when going to Canada from the US! Crazy. I hope you have fun with the Canadian version of this swap!

Wildchild 04/10/2010 #

Thank you much!

PLEASE note that I have not yet banned anyone who does not meet the swap requirements, and that I have also offered to angel this swap. Don't let anything scare you off!
