Description:

This swap is exclusively for members of the Flickr group "Alter Girls."

If you want to join this swap and are not already a member, you must become one and remain one until the swap is completely over and your partner has notified us that they have received your swap. (But once you become a member, we are pretty sure you will want to stay! ;oP )

But hurry! We only allow a maximum of 50 members at one time.

This swap is for a large-sized matchbox. (The kind that holds 250 matches.)

The theme is "red hat society" which does not necessarily mean you have to fill it/decorate it with "red hat society" items (although you can!)

Mostly what this swap entails is using lots of red, purple, or anything related to what is part of a red hat woman's life.

Eg. tea, teacups, teapots, hats, shoes, pearls, lace, vintagey items, etc.

I think you get the idea. ;)

Let's have fun with this one, ladies! It's our very FIRST AG swap! :D

Note If you are putting teabags into your matchbox, be sure they are the kind sealed in foil packets so that the tea does not absorb the sulfer smell/taste.

Hmmm, I feel a bit silly but... what's the Red Hat Society?

The whole premise of the Society is based on the poem, When I Am An Old Woman, (forgot the author). The poem is about what the author will do as an old woman that she can't/won't do as a young/er woman. In the end it boils down to the fact that when she is an old woman she will wear purple and a red hat.

The Red Hat Ladies join up in groups where they wear purple clothes with red hats and socialize. They don't take themselves too seriously. They just dress up hence the heels, pearls, feathers, etc. They tend to drink tea and just have lots of fun!

I don't think the requirement for the swap is that you have to use a lot of actual red hat stuff, but just use the colors red and purple. Embellish with hats, shoes, tea and stuff.

Put red hat in the search engine to get a feel for the mood of a red hat theme.

For those who want to take it more literally there is tons of red hat stuff out there. Everything from red hat scrapbooking paper and stickers to pins and embroidered iron ons.

I think it will just be a really cool way to have some fun with a wild and zany theme!

Hope I've helped, Melody, and not made it more complicated or spoken out of turn.
