Description:

For this swap, you will be sending your partner on a photographic tour of your town.

Imagine you were showing an out-of-town friend around your town. Where are your favorite places to hang out? Where are the best places to go sight-seeing? What is your favorite restaurant?

Put these photos in a journal with descriptions, kind of as if you were putting together a travel journal on your town. Paste in the photo and write a description. Why do you like it? When is the best time to go there? Write it, once again, as if you are writing it for an out-of-town friend. =)

EDIT: ALSO SEND SOME KIND OF SOUVENIR FOR YOUR PARTNER FROM YOUR TOWN. Keychains work well. Don't send a postcard since you will be taking photos already. =)

All photography must be your own with a minimum of 12 shots. Now that's a minimum, so feel free to go above and beyond if you really have a lot of interesting and favorite places around your town! Feel free to edit your photos on your computer, but please print them out on photo paper and/or have them printed up at a store like walmart or walgreens. They have pretty cheap prints, and they won't smudge like some ink-jet printer photos can sometimes. =P Keep the photos high-quality for your partner and big enough for them to really get to see your town! =)

Journal choice is up to you. You can buy one or make your own, but please no spiral notebooks. They rip too easily. Composition Books are a good size, but if you feel that will leave too many blank pages, there are other options out there. =) Try to have the photo and description of the area on the same page. You can continue on to the next page if you need to write more. =P

Also, if the area you're showing in your town has some kind of history to it, include that, too! =D

On the first page, have a photo of yourself with a little bit of information:

  • Name (first only if you prefer)
  • swap-bot user name
  • age
  • how long you've lived in your town
  • favorite things you like to do in your town
  • any other information about yourself you'd like to include

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to post them in the comments section so everyone can see them. =)

This will be an international swap. You will have one partner. Please have a 4.8+ rating and at least 5 different package swaps completed. This means email, postcard, and letter swaps won't count. You can start your journal from the day you sign up. Feel free to send your journal before the final send date. I just wanted to give enough time to get some good photography put together and so that you can really take your time with this.

If you don't have the swap or rating requirements to sign up for this, please message me and we'll see if we can work something out. =)

I posted an edit above. Send a souvenir along with your photo journal. Keychains or something along those lines will work well. Just check out your local tourist areas or grocery stores. They have stuff that works well. =) Don't send a post card since you will already be taking photos. =)

Rockdiva24 03/ 6/2010 #

This is international. What about the language barrier? We might be sending or receiving a book that can't be read??

wolviechick121 03/ 8/2010 #

I have done international swaps on here for different swaps. All of the ones I've seen so far speak English just fine. =P Swap-bot is English-based anyways. =) So that wouldn't be something to worry about really. =)

craftycol 03/ 9/2010 #

I would love to do this swap but I have neve done a journal can anyone tell me how so maybe I can have a go pm me I go under craftycol ty if u can help me. PS I live in beach side town that is part of a city can I include pic's of city as well. As those who visit my town need to visit city as well.

Rockdiva24 03/ 9/2010 #

Haha True...I didn't even think about Swap Bot being english based...duh!!! lol

wolviechick121 03/10/2010 #

@ Rockdiva24: Haha it's all good. =P

@ craftycol: There aren't any like... real "journal" rules for this. You are basically just making your own put-together book of pictures and descriptions with some town history in there. =P Whatever you find interesting about your town. Like I said in the description, you can use a composition book... or any other kind of notebook you can find (besides spiral notebook. BIG no-no there). But you don't have to make your own journal unless you want to. You can just get a store-made one and decorate it to make it your own. You can show the area around your town if you want. =) Again, it would be like something you would take your friend around to show them. =) That can even mean a quick train ride to somewhere nearby if you wanted. =P Just have some pics of the trip to get there, too. =) It's not like... limited to a certain amount of miles around your house. =)

hey there, despite being an INTENSE newbie, for some reason my message-capabilities are definately not working so i thought i'd drop you a line via here, feel free to message me back as i am computer-inept/ blind and it just doesnt seem to want to work for me :] i'm only brand new to swapbot, but have been exchanging mail/packages for years so am more than capable with this kind of thing. let me know if theres a way i can nicely persuade you to let me join this particularly awesome swap. i've taken some of the people i write to on photo-tours of my town, but it would be nice to try this in a bigger way. from someone who should clearly not try to navigate a computer, laura.

scubated 03/13/2010 #

we don't have much here, but I will take pictures of what I can. Sounds like a fun swap.

wolviechick121 03/13/2010 #

Well take pics of things that you personally like about your town, too. This can include restaurants, parks, whatever you would like to show off that you like, personally. =) Be proud of what your town DOES have. =P

Filpot 03/14/2010 #

I'd love to do this, but I don't live in a town. I live in a hamlet of 8 houses. No restaurant, no park - a few mountains and lots (and LOTS) of trees. Perhaps I'll wait for a less "urban" photo journal swap to turn up!

Kris 03/15/2010 #

This sounds fun!!!

wolviechick121 03/15/2010 #

@ Filpot: Well if you think your town is interesting, that'd be great. You don't HAVE to have pictures of restaurants and stuff. To me, a cute town is better. =P But really, if you think you could make a nice photo journal for your partner, feel free to join! =D It's just to show off what you love most about your town and to share that with everyone else! =)

loveslife 03/16/2010 #

:)) I'm so looking forward to this one! My town is small but the area is beautiful and has some historic importance for this part of the state - its what I want to show off!

wolviechick121 03/16/2010 #

Hooray!! Man I wish I could see what everyone makes with this!! =D

keiostar 03/17/2010 #

Can newbies join? This sounds like SOOO much fun. I am a consultant for a scrapbooking/stamping company and have participated and hosted swaps in the past - - Please (!) consider letting newbies participate. If the final answer is no, I do understand <;o) Thanks

wolviechick121 03/20/2010 #

Got your message and responded, keiostar. =)

lisalisa 03/21/2010 #

I'm glad you put the blurb about not just printing this on paper. Not to sound snarky but you can get a print made for literally $.19. And as far as living in a small area, I do too. I'll be also including pics of nearby areas and towns that I'm in daily.

megapanda 03/22/2010 #

I'm not even using a digital camera, I've broken out my 35mm and the rolls of black and white film I've had sitting around for quite a while :D

wolviechick121 03/23/2010 #

Oh nice megapanda! haha.

Yeah especially when you're doing a photo-based swap, just printing it on paper just feels lazy. The focus is supposed to be on the photography really. Since you are showing your town. So that gets to be your craft. Be proud of your pictures and get them developed. "Developed" if you are doing digital. haha. And yeah. Prints are pretty cheap now-a-days. =)

APLamothe 03/30/2010 #

My town is having its centennial anniversary this year and I've already been taking photos. Looking forward to putting a selection together to send out there. I live out in the country and will be including a section on my beaver pond.

Emkay 03/31/2010 #

Shame, I would have liked to join, but I am pretty busy in April. Íf this swap goes well, you will maybe host another one?

wolviechick121 03/31/2010 #

@APLamothe That sounds awesome! =D

@ Emkay: Yeah I'm planning on hosting another one of these later in the season when all the plants are alive again. haha. So yep. There will be another one of these for sure. =)

megapanda 03/31/2010 #

I'm sad, something's come up where my funds more need to go, and since this swap would involve getting that film developed and printed (which gets overpriced because it's b&w) I'm going to have to drop. >:[ But I'm very happy to see that there will be another, hopefully then I'll have the money.

wolviechick121 04/ 1/2010 #

Aww. That's too bad. Yeah there will be another one for sure. I will probably message everyone that participated in this one (and commented on it) to let them know when I have the second one up. =) So you will know for sure. =) Like I think I said before, it will probably be more into the summer when the rain starts to let up and when things are actually grown again! haha Good luck with everything!!

wolviechick121 04/ 4/2010 #

Partners assigned. Have fun everyone!! =)

handsdown46785 04/ 4/2010 #

yeay! i'm excited for this one, and hopefully my partner will like what I send to them!

wolviechick121 04/ 5/2010 #

I just wish I could see everyone's! haha
