Description:

Your task, should you accept, is to create an 8 page mini-zine using the technique put forth in these links:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh1W15BWCUk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnOIMBdYNu0

Subject matter is at your discretion. Poetry, drawings, collage, nasty pic or your mom...whatever. Just try to take into account that you are sending this to someone who may be easily offended or they may have thicker skin than a rhino.

Working digitally is to your advantage or at least having a scanner so that you can scan and shrink to fit. I'm hoping the videos explain the process so that i don't have to go on and on....

In the end, you should have a file converted to PDF so that everyone can at least open it in Acrobat and print it off. You will then send a PDF file of your zine to me, The Organizer, and to you swap partner via email. I will posting them at a central page off my personal site and sending that URL to all participants so they can compare zines.

I require a minimum 2.5 rating and a proven history of procrastination to participate in this swap and Newbies are always welcome.

Now go put your thinking caps on and assemble some stellar pieces to add to your zine. Seriously, go.

The PDFs are a good idea in principle, but if someone in the UK tries to print a letter-size PDF onto A4 paper, or someone in the US tries to print an A4 size PDF onto letter-size paper, there are going to be edges cut off & folds & margins all in the wrong places. :-S

Here are some live links to the working URL above:

An ATC-sized mini-zine can be made by printing into a 7" x 10" area on a piece of paper, and cutting away the extra paper, then folding with the directions above. If they don't have a lot of things attached as embellishments, they can fit into an ATC sleeve, or collector page (sold for baseball cards they hold 9 ATCs)

A true collector from experience, I see. As far as the A4 conundrum, i might suggest designing at 8.27 x 11 and printing the pdf on either legal or A4 without auto-sizing and trimming a bit.

There are always workarounds if you huckle down buckle down and think about it. Why, I once sharpened a fat pencil that wouldn't fit in a pencil sharpener with an exacto blade. It's true.

oh, and thanks to twobluecrows for the live link.

Haven't we all used the exacto blade technique once in our lives ? (Oh, the lack of sharpeners..!)
I have initially planned to join this but alas, I've never even made a zine in my entire life and all this sounds too technical and complicated for me. I like stickers.

Mesha.....you've sharpened pencils with an exacto. you should be able to build a collage of pages and scan it. you could do it with sitckers. Illlllllllllll set up a personal swap with you and we can battle it out with who can fill 8 21/2 x 4 pages with the silliest sitckers evah.
