Description:

Feeling dissapointed? We can fix that!

This is a swap you do not need 'permission' to join- but I WILL check with all the people who joined to see that they have followed the instructions below, so read carefully....

This is an "Angel" Swap, of sorts...

To join, you must:

1) Be willing to fulfill a swap for another person who was dissapointed at not getting something from their partner in a previous swap.

2) Have not gotten a swap from your partner in a previous swap yourself. (or been sorely dissapointed, and /effectively/ not received it IE: it arrived as an empty box, or was broken by postal workers, etc.)

3) Have enough ability to communicate that you can fulfill the following instructions on this swap! (that means having a filled-out profile, checking your messages (at the top, where it reads "messages"!) and emails, as well as THIS swaps 'discussion' board.

Okay! So. Now you know what this is. :) Hopefully, this will be the Swap to end as many frowny-faces as humanly possible!!

For ease of execution, everyone will have ONE (1) partner. This will help if your partner is international, and please understand they may BE international. If there is a problem with that, we can try and work it out, but this is a swap for everyone, no matter where they live!

This is how it will work:

A) You should post below, in the discussion/comments section, about which swap you were in that your partner let you down in. (If you click on that swap in "your swaps" and use 'copy' and 'paste' to put the URL of the swap in your post, then your partner will have it MUCH easier, figuring out what it is that you were supposed to recieve.) In any event, you need to explain what the swap was, and what the requirements of the swap were in regards to what was being swapped/traded.

It would help your partner, if you also add to your entry here, why you were dissapointed ('I really liked the idea of this swap, and I worked hard on my letter, but got no letter in return.' for example, or 'I thought this was the perfect swap for me, because I LOVE socks, but I sent out some, and didn't GET any! that was no fun!')... stating your feelings, and what you expected, will help your partner to understand your needs and wants, as well as the swap 'requirements'.

B) When partners are assigned, refer to your partner's post(s) here. See what the swap was. If you can, be the "Angel" for your partner, and fulfill that swap! If there is a problem with it (such as a box too heavy to ship overseas, or a cost limit you truly cannot afford) immediately begin talking to your partner, using swap-bot's 'messages' system! (or on the board here if you wish!) Find a way to truly BE your partner's 'angel'... try to fulfill their swap for them, or help arrange someone who CAN! :) I have allowed AMPLE time before the 'sent by' due date, for those who need/want to go all out and save for postage or contents!

If all else fails, look to the forums for help! Ask someone else who can perform the needed thing, and then make sure it goes through. Become that person who can turn Dissapointment, into a BIG SMILE instead!

The whole GOAL of this swap is to welcome with open arms, all the people who have been dissapointed by not getting their swap- it is NOT intended to be absolute and perfect. If your swap was a 50.00 box of goodies, your partner might not be able to send that. Instead, perhaps they can talk with you about things you have really wanted, or send a box of goodies that DOES fit within their budget. If nothing else, perhaps they can find YOUR angel, and in doing so, still be 'angel'ing you... make sense?

Take your partner's hand... and make them SMILE.

I expect FAIR ratings to be given!

A "5" indicates you got your swap package, and it effectively fulfilled their requirements. In this swap, there is the option for those /truly/ unable to do so. If they are kind and try to send you something, or make sure someone else does, and you GET something... please rate them a "5".

A "3" indicates that they did not meet the requirements of the swap. In THIS swap, the 'requirements' are to post your needs and info of your missed-out-on swap, to read YOUR information posted here, and then to communicate together to fulfill your missing swap. Communication is key. If your partner sends you a brick instead of a letter, or a used tissue instead of a postcard... well. okay. A 3. But if they send you a box FULL of dollar store things they feel you would like, to make up for a 50.00 swap... feel their genuine attempt there. Be kind in your choices. Only give this "3" if they did not participate in the communication or steps of this unique swap.

A "1" is self-explainatory. An Evil "No-Send"... try to be sparing, and give this only after two-three weeks past the 'send by' date, and at least a message and note to them... give things a chance to arrive... but if they don't fulfill, well? What can you do? Be kind in the 'comment' section when you leave it, so they know how to redeem it, or why they got the "1". (and so everyone ELSE knows the situation too!)

So- to recap:

1) Join.

2) Post your situation/dissapointment and in what swap/what the swap requirements were, here on the discussion board, for all to read.

3) Wait for partners to be assigned. (on the day after the 'sign up' deadline)

4) Find your partner, find his/her post here, and begin communication by clicking on the "I sent my items" when you HAVE sent them, and private messaging them here on swap-bot if you wish as well, or posting to them on the discussion board here if you need/like.

5) Wait. (up to two-three weeks or more after the 'send-by' date!)

6) GET Your SWAP in the mail!! Yay!!

7) (or if you don't get it, message them!)

8) Rate your partners as soon as you recieve your packages! (or contact and communicate and give a "1"/"no-send" if you don't!)

Okay, so the GOAL is 100% happy-happy in this Swap. BE the 'angel' here. SHOW your partner the happy you want to recieve.

Don't make me get out the rabid gerbils...

(and yes, I will weed out anyone who's obviously not meeting the requirements, before we assign partners. I want to make sure only genuine people who missed out on a swap jump in here- while leaving room for those who just want to be an 'angel' too...)

Here is my disappointing swap:

http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/1822

It's the only one I've been flaked on, and it was by the coordinator, who I spoke with twice after in PMs and who said she had everything for me and had been distracted by things in life and promised she wasn't flaking, but after I contacted her over a month after, I never got a reply. She hasn't joined anymore swaps since, though I did check her myspace, and she's been there. She had a perfect rating as well as hearts before this, too.

It was also one of my first, and I was looking forward to it, though I had a lot of fun putting the package together for my partner, which made up for a lot!

It was a pricy swap ($20), and I really wouldn't want to break anyone's bank, so honestly, I don't want to worry about the price. I actually just like the idea of angeling someone who's been disappointed. I'd be happy with just going with the spirit of the swap, which was things for the home. Could be fun cleaning things, fun stuff regarding household chores, etc. "Domestic goddess" stuff. ::cough cough:: Which I am not, but that was part of the point!

So yeah. Great idea, and I look forward to angeling for someone!

My very first swap in April 2006 was a disappointment as I love socks. Also got stiffed on a similar swap a few months later. Bad sock Karma! Good thing I didn't give up, as I've now been in 150 swaps, and stiffed on less than 10.

The swap I was flaked on was http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/1967

I was really disappointed because I love these sorts of swaps where you make a themed package tailored to your partner's profile/preferences. Plus, it had sort of feminist undertones to me, which was also appealing and not something I find everyday on swapbot.

From the swap description: Let's celebrate us. You will have 1 partner, with a limit of $10 before mailing. What does being a woman mean to you? This is a time to really enjoy being a woman, and remember this day.

Clayshaper, this is an excellent idea for a swap. Thanks for cooking it up!

Clayshaper 06/21/2007 #

I'm happy to see more folks joining! (and sharing their dissapointments and reasons for it! I think we can easily offer our partner signifigant comfort just by acknowledging and fulfilling their swap... call me too wishy-washy there, but i'm looking forward to it!)

My most disapointing swap is http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/1060
The swap host herself had me. It does require a lot of work so I feel sort-of guilty to ask for it here. It is personalizing/altering a deck of playing cards. It was fun for me making all those cards but when it came to receiving for this one I was just as excited to be receiving. I waited I'm still waiting it closed Dec. 1st or Nov.?. If this is too big I can offer others. There has been 12 not received swaps since feb. 06.

funkykchicken 06/22/2007 #

I didn't receive on these two swaps.

http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/1819

http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/2396

I think it's sad when you trust that they will send to you and then they don't.I am willing to do any swaps for my partner but i cannot knit or crochet. If everyone could post at least two swaps then maybe we could choose one from the list. Then it would be a surprise as well.

I'm not sure i could do a whole deck of cards and get them altered in time.

Gayle 06/23/2007 #

I know what you mean, funkychicken. My biggest worry is that I'll get someone who lost on a swap with handmade things and I'm soooo not a crafty person. I might be able to manage a matchbox since I've been practicing with that, but otherwise, I'll be lost.

shecooks 06/25/2007 #

It was my very first swap. I won't bother to post the link as it was a simple one... cookie cutters. Three cookie cutters, plastic or metal. I got somebody who has tons and tons of hearts and 5s and here I am, the new girl who PMed the host to get in... I sent my package. I signed up because I had these beautiful copper cutters and I don't cut cookies very often, but I figured someone else would get more use out of them and maybe I'd get one that wasn't quite so pretty and I wouldn't feel bad leaving it in a drawer until christmas. I sent mine, internationally, but she never sent. I didn't bother to message her, she never messaged me and on the list it says, "not sent". Very dissapointed. I think you guys can manage cookie cutters, right? Not so hard... don't know why she couldn't...

TerryF 06/26/2007 #

I was about to join this swap, went to check on the swaps I never received, only to realize that I have had the wonderful luck of being angelled for every single one - and there have been a few! Wow - what awesome people we have playing here! Someone has always stepped up and offered to send me a flaked swap - I am so grateful.

So, rather than joining this swap, I will offer to angel for 2 people here, if needed, when all is said and done. I am willing to try anything but knitting and crocheting.

Clayshaper, please do let me know if you need help.

Terry

lilkye 06/29/2007 #

hmm....can you participate in this swap if you really don't have a particular "bad" swap you want re gifted? (granted I've had some sucky ones, but nothing so bad I can think of the particulars)....I'd be perfectly happy with a return swap giftie suprize from/based off my profile.

I'll join to be sure....but please feel free to drop me if this is not possible :)

this is my disappointing swap:
http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/3780

it was one of my first ones and i had a lot of fun packaging up surprises for my partners and received 2 great packages in return.

unfortunately, i never rec'd the third package even after pm'ing the person. :(

and i LOVE surprises!

Clayshaper 06/30/2007 #

Yes, everyone is welcome, Kye! It's nice to see people join just so they CAN be an 'angel' to someone else! I started the swap and then belatedly realized I wasn't sure what swap I would want myself. (blush) Don't get me wrong- i've been 'stiffed' or 'flaked' on many times... but I tend not to get too bothered by it. I dunno which one I would 'ask' for! I just wanted a chance to make up for folks who didn't get something they REALLY REALLY wanted!

Clayshaper 06/30/2007 #

Here's a note for ALL participants:

If you get someone as a partner, and feel you cannot fulfill their 'wish' (say they want a crochet'd bag and you don't knit or crochet) but still want to make it all work out, contact me!! If nothing else, we can jostle partners and help one another.

Remember, the concept behind 'angeling' a swap is to make sure the person isn't dissapointed by not getting their swap- there's no rule here that YOU have to do it! You can play emmisary and simply find someone who is willing to do it for them! :) (like I know someone who crochets, and someone who knits! I could get them involved easily to help by doing the bag if you drew that- as an example)

Also: if you don't know what something is, or feel intimidated by it, just post here or email me- I will help link you up, get you started!

Just imagine... if someone really wanted an ATC with a horse, and you didn't draw and never made an ATC before... don't think of it as 'Oh No! I can't do that!' think of it as 'I will give them an EXTRA special gift- my VERY first ATC or horse project, all for them!! just because I wanted them to feel good and get their horse ATC!'

See? It's all about the warm fuzzies. :)

lighthouse 06/30/2007 #

I'll try my best to make my partner happy in this swap :)

The swap I never received was here: http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/1332

The participants were supposed to post a list of 10 items and their partners were to pick out at least 6 and send them. The really sad thing is that I convinced my younger sister to cooperate in this swap with me, so we could share the costs... We shared the wishlist as well - so there are 5 things from me and 5 from my sister. I'm ok with receiving nothing (that's the risk of swapping)... but our partner e-mailed us several times saying she would be late with the swap, the last time was in January...it was really unfair to give us so much hope and that's why my sister still asks about this swap :(

So, to anyone who would be my partner in this swap - I'd like to ask you to focus on my sister's part of the list which was: * something orange (colour) *wafers (to eat) *lipbalm or lipgloss *angel (she collects them) *surprise.

I haven't been rated in this swap, because the partner, we were supposed to send to, was a flaker and never posted her wishlist. The coordinator decided that we can prepare the package to this flaker's partner and so we did. We put a lot effort and heart into this - and the receiver was really happy and touched with the swap we sent. She couldn't rate us but she sent a handmade thank you card and CD with my favourite music - so thoughtful of her!

This is my strange experience with the only one never-received swap :) Warm hugs to all angels here and Clayshaper, a very thoughtful coordinator :)

shecooks 07/ 1/2007 #

I can knit. I can't do ATCs though (can't draw at all).

Clayshaper 07/ 2/2007 #

Okay, this is going to be one of those spammy posts- my apologies ahead of time. When I created this swap, I didn't stop to think if there was ONE swap -I- was sad about not getting... just that I didn't get so MANY that surely others had similar experiences. :P

I guess the swap I had the most fun DOING, but sadly didn't get my partner sending to ME in it, was: http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/1727 It was kind of subjective and fun to do... I was looking forward to how someone else handled it! That was the only 'big' dissapointment I think I have ever had on a swap.

I always love ATC's of course, and I didn't get sent to on a number of those swaps too- you can cut-n-paste or copy the above link and change the last four numbers to see these ATC swaps I had at least one or two partners not send on, if you're into ATC's- or make up your own theme/topic! I love them. :) (Vintage Label theme, 2083 - Proud of where I live theme, 1802 - Woodland critters theme, 1854 (both my partners flaked on that one sniffle) - the pencil day themed swap (one atc plus some pencils), 2013)

If you're a crafty type and prefer to do a physical craft other than a paper one, (or like to shop, since you could buy this instead) there was swap 2006 "make a mobile"... I'd love a mobile for the porch or indoors either one. :) I sent, but didn't get one, and there's such a perfect spot for one on the well-sheltered porch I was a bit sad. nothing but the bird feeder out there right now.

I guess the rest didn't really matter- I mean, I never get real broken up when one of several don't send, and I don't usually even get bugged by no sends on the thngs like postcards or letters or playing cards/stickers, etc... It's just not a big deal to me in the grand scheme of life!

If the ones above don't appeal to you- feel free to write me a letter. :) Honestly! Just a nice rambling 'hey, this is my life' or 'ooh, we share these things in common' letter would make my day as much as anything else. I threw the most obvious options out there, but just a letter would tickle me. :) I'm super easy, and rate a five just for getting the thing- ya know? It makes me happy- do something that makes YOU happy too!

KnittingCateling 07/ 2/2007 #

Aw, crap. I clicked the wrong link and now it says I sent my items but I haven't yet.

Shecooks, I will get your cookie cutters in the mail to you this week.

lighthouse 07/ 3/2007 #

Connie, I'm your partner in this swap and I'd love to try make this playing card deck for you. It would be a lot of work and a challenge too (I'm totally green about altering)- but I'll keep you informed about the progress ;-) I know I will have fun with it! So please don't feel guilty and such...

Meadow 07/ 3/2007 #

Okay I am in -- my only flake was on my very first swap, but my partner in that is also my partner for THIS swap, and she says the items for my first swap we sent last week.

That swap was just for 4 little notecards.

Gayle, I have you, and I am totally unfamiliar with the Anne Taintor or whatever and I'm afraid $20 is a bit much for me -- but I will try and send you something nice you will enjoy anyway!

ae4me 07/ 3/2007 #

Thank-you Lighthouse for your message here.......I've been thinking oh my oh my it's to much I should list the others.. So now I will calm down and be ever so excited for what you provide for me.... Thank-you, Connie

Gayle 07/ 3/2007 #

Don't worry about it at all, Meadow. I don't know who Anne Taintor is, either! I just liked the concept of the swap because I love household stuff.

And I'm totally not worried about money spent on it at all. Like I mentioned above, I'm just glad to be able to angel someone else and I'll have fun with it. This is a great concept for a swap!

Gayle 07/ 3/2007 #

Oh, and Lighthouse? I'm sending to you and I'm totally going to have fun with it. I love those kinds of swaps!

lighthouse 07/16/2007 #

Connie, I'm working on the deck ;-) I know I'm slow, I'm slow in general, but it's quite a challenge! - I had to complete the supplies, try out some glues to make sure it will stick for good... well, it's a very interesting project and I'm lucky to have you as a partner :)

lighthouse 08/ 6/2007 #

Connie, a small package is on its way to you :-)
