Description:

This swap was inspired by the hoarding thread in our group forum...

Do you have trouble making your way across your craft room? Been accused by loved ones of hoarding disorder? Do you have shopping bags or boxes full of stuff and you don't remember what it is? Do you find it hard -- really hard -- to let go of your stuff?

Prove you can overcome your disorder and part with that crap you've been hoarding! Here's how to play:

Get a medium USPS Flat Rate box -- the one that costs $10.35 to send ($9.85 if you buy the postage online). You can choose either the shallow one (13 5/8" x 11 7/8" x 3 3/8") or the deep one (11" x 8 1/2" x 5 1/2"), whichever works better for you. (These are available free from the post office or you can order them online free and have them shipped to you free). Now, $10.35 is a lot to spend on postage, but that's all ytou'll be spending. Because you are filling the box with ONLY things you already own.

What have you been hoarding? What do you have too much of? What is sitting in a box on the floor that you don't even realize you own? What are you stepping over to get to your craft table? Be brave, my friends: part with the things that you are hoarding. You love them, but you must let them go. (If you love something, set it free...) Prove that you are no hoarder, just a connoisseur! Share the bounty with your crapsisters!

This is truly a swap for the group, as it's going to be dependent on all the hoarders behaving nicely and really sharing the good stuff. Crap is in the eye of the beholder, but please, don't send stuff you wouldn't want. (Of course you want it; that's why you are hoarding it!) It's fine if it's something you got in a swap that you don't love but haven't been able to part with because someone else might like it, as long as someone else really might like it. I am not requiring a dollar value for this swap since it's all stuff you already own, but I can't imagine it would be less than $5... Think craft supplies, notecards, stationery, pens, stickers, embellishments, fibers, beads, buttons, paper... but it doesn't have to be just crafty stuff as long as it's nice. Maybe you hoard lovely French scented soaps? (check your partners profile about fragrances for that one.) Office supplies? Glass marbles? USB sticks? vintage jewelry? scarves? little clever boxes? charms? foreign money? hard candy?

Check your partner's profile if you want to try to pick things from your stash you think they'll especially enjoy, but it's not required; this is sender's choice. That said, there is one profile requirement; please do not send your partner anything they specifically say they DON'T like. That's just not nice.

And since it's us, I know I don't have to say all the usual disclaimers, but since it's 'spensive, you can expect that I'll boot anyone even slightly fishy. I can't afford to angel this puppy and I'm sure it won't be necessary.

Delight one partner while proving you are not really a hoarder.

Alas, it's US only. You international hoarders will just have to hold onto your stuff a bit longer.

Please note: I am setting the dates pretty far out because I am still catching up on my own swaps and I want to ensure I will be a good hostess for this one. I just had the idea and wanted to get it posted before I forgot.

I'm afraid my partner is going to get quite a hodge-podge. I hoard dang near everything. But I'll try to limit it to whatever I have more than six of! :)

Got to disagree with you on one point, it is not "Truly a swap for the group". I am in the UK and it is not fair, snot fair!!!! I got an email saying there was a new swap and got all excited.

Huffing seriously now. I think I will go sort out my fabulous European Crap.

Blowing raspberries at all you US people :-)

Deluxx 07/28/2009 #

Oh Sam, I am sorry! Last time I hosted a swap I got grief because it was international and people griped they couldn't afford the postage. This one would cost over US$20 to send to you... :( I accept the raspberries with a bowed head. (Not that I wouldn't love European crap!)

disneyfreaksam 07/28/2009 #

Thats okay. I had no idea how much it would cost to send. It would be even more to send to you as our postage is slightly dearer. Well, you would live abroad :-p

I love this swap idea....but August sucks for me...if I start going through the hoard I could be in there for days and not get anything else done...please do this one again sometime!!

spin 07/29/2009 #

Oh my gosh! I just signed up! I just recently moved so I had to start the hording all over again! I might have to buy some supplements to the box. (always one for the box, three for me...LOL That should speed up getting my crap heap back into shape! I have to agree, I would love to have some European crap, but sadly can not afford to ship over there at the moment!

BUMMER had to move it to my watch list for now! but if I can only have one swap in August, this will be it! :D

LINDA50 07/30/2009 #

On my watch list. I would feel more comfortable with September dates. Time seems to slip away from me way to fast lately.

Deluxx 07/30/2009 #

I would be happy to push to September if no one minds... Seems better for most folks.

Deluxx 07/31/2009 #

Hey all; between messages here and PMs I get the idea folks want this one moved, so I pushed it out into Sept. Hope that means we get more participants (and that no one has to drop!).

crescendo 07/31/2009 #

oh yay, that works better for me to do in Sept. I had to move to watchlist cuz I needed to clear swaps out. I think I could manage to fill a box with my crap by Sept. yay!

PansySuz 08/ 8/2009 #

I, for one, am glad this swap is not international!!!!! I don't have to let any of my stuff go.........neener neener :)

on my WL -- I have to monitor my swapping enthusiasm. Gotta agree on the int'l shipping but hopefully Deluxx will get a great response & possibly host another swap to include int'l but on a smaller scale, such as a 9x12 envelope or smaller box? I too would love European happy crap -- I've had to resort to a couple private swaps to get my fix. The description is too close to home -- admitting it is the first step. h-hh-hh-ho-ho .. Nope -- cant do it yet... but I'll sign up anyway closer to date. But if any int'l folks want to do a private swap, small scale, lemme know :)

Deluxx 08/21/2009 #

It's a deal -- if all goes well with this one, I'll do an international version with a smaller box or envelope. Ha, PanzySuz, you'll have to do that one!
