Number of people in swap:22
Location:Other
Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:May 9, 2007
Date items must be sent by:May 30, 2007

Description:

This swap is to decorate and fill a 32-count matchbox using the colors black, white and ?. What is ??? Well, it's any color you choose. So you could do black, white and pink or black white and lime green - you get the idea. I would recommend looking at your partner's profile to get ideas for the third color.

You can fill the box with things like buttons, stickers, beads, ribbon, etc.. I would recommend checking out your partner's profile to see what they like. If you want, shoot for a heart and send something extra with it.

Now the rules: This swap is international and open to swappers with ratings of 4.5 or higher. Newbies are welcome but you need to email me first and provide me some references. I will ban swappers at my discretion, if something looks dodgy or someone is a known scammer. You will be sending one matchbox to one partner. Since this is an international swap, if you are mailing overseas, you need to send your package airmail. If you are unwilling or unable to do this, please do not sign up for this swap.

Please send nice items you would like to get yourself.

pink, please! thank you!

ElizabethObviously 04/23/2007 #

turquoise or hot pink for me! that would be cool to have to have your partner list their color and you do their color!

kittenmeowmeow 04/24/2007 #

wait.. i thought that's what it was...?

ellawitch 04/24/2007 #

no, the ? color is the matchbox maker's choice. i just suggested that you look at your partner's profile to see what color they might like... you can make suggestions of course but the ? color is picked by the person making the matchbox. sorry if that wasn't clear.

kittenmeowmeow 04/25/2007 #

oh... hmmmmm... okay.. i think i still might be in...

OK I just have to decorate my matchbox now that I have re-read the instructions and noticed that the ? was my choice, so away I go. Woohoo, to be this ahead, I'm so proud of myself!!!

i am glad you are excited heather...i might wait though to see who my partner is before finishing the matchbox. granted that's me but for instance, i see on your profile you don't like pink - what if someone did black, white and pink for you? it's senders choice but i always think it's good to check your partner's profile first.

Ah that's ok for the matchbox being decorated pink. It's just I'm not a pink person for clothing and things like that.

I haven't done it yet anyway - I've been busy fulfilling a few other things, like tidying my house because for some reason my 4 year old is happy to trash it, but she's not keen on clearing up!! Her room looks like a warzone and I've not been in the right frame of mind to do it, so instead trashed my kitchen by emptying all cupboards and drawers at once (dumb idea I know) and giving them a good spring clean.

It must be something in the water!!!!

Heather , your package was mailed today. Please let me know when you receive it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together for you! (And no, the third color is NOT pink!)

By the way, for US swappers, please share with me how you have mailed your package out, particularly in light of the USPS' price increases. For example, it was $1.13 to mail a 0.6 oz matchbox swap across the country, but $1.07 to mail a 1.0 oz matchbox swap to Hungary! So, is it no longer significantly cheaper to mail a package domestically?

I'm told it was not only a simple fare increase, but a classification change as well. So, what qualified as a simple first class envelope last week is now a parcel post envelope this week (a matchbox won't fit through the "letter" feeder and thus is a parcel now). Is that what you have encountered, or was my friendly neighborhood postal worker pulling a fast one on me?

Clarification

OK, I think I understand this now. A first class letter ($0.41 for the first ounce, $0.17 for each additional ounce) can be no more than 1/4 inch thick. When it exceeds this thickness, it becomes a package ($1.13 for the first ounce, $0.17 for each additional ounce). There are other factors involved in the classification process, but I think that this is the most pertinent one as it pertains to matchbox swaps.

Essentially, a matchbox when mailed is no longer a letter, but a package. This has thus doubled the cost of mailing a matchbox swap out, at least domestically.

Are the things inside the box supposed to be the black, white and ?color, too? Or just any choice of items?

This postage situation is making me think hard about a lot of swaps before I sign up. I may just have to go back to the ATCs and postcards, letters and 1oz paper swaps, or just cut back more on the numebr of swaps and go for quality over quantity! In the long run, that's probably a more sane prospect for me anyway! ;)

Betsy, I sent yours today from Canada. Enjoy!

ellawitch 05/22/2007 #

the items inside the matchbox are supposed to be black, white and whatever the third color you choose.

Heather71 05/25/2007 #

Triviumlady Yes it's like that here in the UK. I sent a magazine to my Mum (she's 200 miles away) and I sent the exact same magazine to a friend in the US.

It cost me £4.00 to send to Mum and it cost me £3.05 to send to the US and the US one arrived within 3 days and the one to Mum took a week.

Oh and I will let you know when the matchbox arrives :) Thank you.
