QnT HST’s black with batik #6 2-3-22 thru 03-3-22 --2 partners --4 HSTS to each partner --total 8 HSTS mailed --mailed size 4 ½” X 4 ½” each HST We will be making our HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES (HST’s) with one side plain black and the other side any batik print senders care to use- except try to avoid a lot of black or gray in your batiks. We want a contrast between the 2 sides of our HSTS. Imagine how pretty this will be with the black contract and beautiful batiks on the other side. A. Pick 8 different 5-inch by 5-inch batik print charms from your stash (or cut some if you wish) B. Gather (cut) 8 black or tone-on-tone black charms, also 5-inch by 5-inch C. Follow instructions below for making HSTS…they are so easy; you will love them! D. In this swap you will end up with 8 different HSTS for yourself and 8 to send to your partners. Each partner gets 4 for a total of 8 HSTS mailed. Making Half-Square Triangles: take 2 fabric charms of equal size (example: 5-inches by 5-inches) we are using one black and one batik print charm for this swap series on wrong side of the lightest colored charm draw a diagonal pencil line from upper left corner to lower right corner place the 2 charms in a stack right side together stitch one-quarter inch seam on either side of the drawn line cut on drawn line press open both HSTS (press to the dark side) square them up (example: to 4 ½” X 4 ½”) (google this if you need more help, because a picture of squaring up is much easier to understand – to me that is) follow these instructions for all 8 HSTS, which will yield 16 HSTS, 8 different HSTS for you and 8 to mail to partners. Have fun, do neat work, and swap-on! |
