Description:

I happen to be one of the many people on here that are huge fans of journaling and collaborative journaling and art. I love the idea of round robin journals where you send a journal to many people and having them add entries. I think it's such a great way to expose your art, see other artists, and get some great inspiration.

I wanted to do something like this, but allow people who have a tighter budget to join. The idea reminds me of the concept of tip ins if you have ever heard of them.

Essentially I would love to make this a long term project, however, I am going to set it up in a way where people can come an go without there being any ill effects on the project as a whole.

The idea is to make individual entries for an eventual journal. The reason behind this is mainly to make it very easy and inexpensive to send. The goal is to have certain themes so overtime you will obtain a good amount of pages for you to bind together somehow into your own special collaborative art book. The plan is to do one of these every few weeks until the interest dies off. At the end I'll provide links for binding techniques so people can get ideas.

The Nuts and Bolts
-Decorate two half sheets of paper (half of a regular printer size), you may use any type of paper, and decorate it in any fashion you wish, however put effort into it! Make it really special. Collage, paint, drawn, altered with ribbon or beads or embellies, stamps, stencils. Simple right!

You will have two partners, so a total of 4 sheets made. This will be internatinal You should have a rating of 4.8 with no recent poor ratings Newbes are allowed with full profiles.

Please leave about half an inch on the side as a margin for binding! I would have to have to cover someones beautiful artwork!

Would this be both sides of each decorated, or just one? And what is the theme?

dmarie 03/11/2009 #

on my watchlist

hereintherain 03/11/2009 #

I was thinking just one side because some people may want to use mediums that aren't necessarily the best for using on both sides and as the first swap since I'm testing the water to find interest levels this is going to be unthemed.

Can you post the measurements of the pages you want us to make. My paper will be a different size to yours as I am in Europe.

hereintherain 03/11/2009 #

It would be a A5 size

carol 03/14/2009 #

Is there a theme for this first time?

dangerine 03/15/2009 #

i am really looking forward to this. i recently had a friend make a book out of 7" record album covers with the help of four artists. it came out fantastic.

hereintherain 03/15/2009 #

yeah I'm excited too. I wish more people were interested though :( Oh well. And to answer your question Carol, no theme for the first one.

Stmpnmnga 03/16/2009 #

So could you tell me what size is A5? Is the binding to be on the short side or the long side?

sojourner 03/16/2009 #

This forum topic has paper sizes

Would love this but have little time just now. Will look for next one. Perhaps pm me so I know it is on :)

this might be a lame question, but should the half sheets be connected for easier binding....like folded in half at the center? i really hope you make this an ongoing type of swap!

dangerine 03/20/2009 #

Are we going to bind on the 5.8 inch side or the 8.3 inch side?

dmarie 03/20/2009 #

I asked my partners if they prefer horizontal or vertical

carol 03/20/2009 #

But if it's going to continue, we should all do the same, shouldn't we? Is A5 regular paper folded in half, or should I purchase it (or cut it?)

hereintherain 03/26/2009 #

I'm sorry I know this is a little bit late and cutting it close to the deadline but my intention was to have you cut the regular sheets in half, and I was thinking decorating it like they were to be bound horizontally unless your partner states otherwise.
