Simple guidelines (rules): (NO NEWBIES - must have 10 mailed, non-postcard swaps with good ratings)

  • Use your skill as an artist and crafter to create a fairy - theme is SPRING..it must be at least 4" tall. I'll be doing other faeries in the future.

-get creative with materials...use doll forms, repurpose dolls from thrift stores, use natural materials, use scraps and ribbons, jewels, beads, etc. NO paperdolls or dotees! Use colors of spring

  • All participants when signing up must list something in comments below to give their partner inspiration...however, this is not partner specific..you may begin creating your faerie immediately

If there is ANY chance at all that you cannot fulfill this swap or may have to leave swap-bot, or otherwise, DO NOT signup. Flakers will be banned from all my future swaps. Besides, you'll be creating some really bad karma for yourself.

I adore green and purple color combinations. For me spring is all about the newness-the flower buds, the baby animals, and the crispness of things.

I so love Faeries! Could it be done in crochet? The patterns I have are of Faeries done in thread crochet and they are beautiful! If it can be done in crochet. Could you please pm me and let me know. [email protected]. Thank you so much.

Oh how I LOVE fairies!!! I love making them and making fairy jars and making fairy scenes!!! I have little fairies all over my garden in the spring and all over my home year round!!! I DO believe!!!!! One of the favorites I received in a swap was made from a silk flower!! She is in a fairy jar which is in my china cabinet--such a good and quiet little fairy!! This should be alot of fun--and that on of crochet sound GRAND!!!! (I kind of hope I get her!!)

Greenwoodtree 02/10/2009 #

Yes, I am looking forward to creating a faerie...Im just starting to enjoy them. For my partner, the more creative the better! I love the elements, nature, and so much more - Spring for me is about the wakening of everything..of new things being born...the colors I think of are pale greens, yellows, opalescent colors, and touches of vibrant reds/peaches/pinks (those budding fruit trees) - sparkling streams, gentle rains, and fair breezes.

allthingspretty 02/16/2009 #

Oh what a wonderful swap, here in Australia we will just be entering Winter time so a wonderful pretty Spring fairie to cheer me up would be just wonderful.

glendas 02/18/2009 #

wow what a great swap. I love soft pinks, blues and mauves and I love sparkles and glitter.did I say love them addicted them would be right.and I love fairies too.

LaTosi 02/19/2009 #

i found these really cute muslin dolls at the craft store made for altering, is this the correct type?

Greenwoodtree 02/19/2009 #

Any thing will work...its up to the maker. I am tempted to go to a thrift store and find a doll I can repurpose...

LaTosi 02/19/2009 #

o.k. thanks. these are so cute cause they're plain jane so it'll be fun to tranform it into something fun.

LaTosi 02/19/2009 #

for me the spring is about the wild flowers. i'm in california and i love the sight of poppies. my husband and i are planning a couple of day trips to go and photograph them. last year when we went camping i discovered that iris's grew wild, i never thought about that, i love them. orange and lavender look so pretty together. maybe i'll plant some poppies and lavender in my yard.

euphoria 02/19/2009 #

In case anyone needs help making wings, there's an excellent tutorial here.

I love the idea of repurposing an existing doll; you could get really creative with the clothes and accessories. Mine will very likely be rife with glitter & bling!

Greenwoodtree 02/20/2009 #

Well thanks for that link:-) And welcome to the swap...

Greenwoodtree 02/25/2009 #

I was at Michaels craft store yesterday...I get there maybe 6 times a year at best. I looked at doll forms and heads..there's notmuch with uniquness, but I figure if someone wants to go that route, they can still make something very personalized. I also picked up some of this self-hardening foamy clay by crayola...I thought about shapping my own arms and legs and maybe head too. We'll see. When I get to the thrift store this weekend, I'll look through old toys and also those old collectible dolls.

meggert 03/ 4/2009 #

Can we use Barbie dolls?

Greenwoodtree 03/ 5/2009 #

sure, thats part of repurposing...

lob 03/ 5/2009 #

I love the color green (like leaves), and I love flowers in bright colors!

lob 03/ 5/2009 #

And I love natural materials!

Greenwoodtree 03/ 6/2009 #

Just a note to everyone...if using and repurposing old dolls, including barbies, please make sure you get very creative with your adornment...please make part of what she wears, etc

Fittzwm 03/ 9/2009 #

Not a fan of Barbie or bratz. I am into gardening, both vegetable and flower. I live in the Pacific northwest and will use all that as inspiration.

Greenwoodtree 03/12/2009 #

Yes, I would greatly prefer not receiving a Bratz doll - I cant stand them!! Also, if you send me a Barbie, I hope she doesnt look ANYTHING like a barbie...

Saulute 03/12/2009 #

I love all colors, just not too dark and muddy or neon ones.Happy fairy would be a big plus. My created fairy most likely will be needlefelted. I would rather not to receive Barbie or any other popular character doll either. And no glitter, please.

Fittzwm 03/16/2009 #

I am thinking of needle felting mine, too! I just built a wire frame 'skeleton' & will give it a shot.

debbiespoms 03/17/2009 #

I'm back.I'm sorry.I had to drop out before.Because I got behind and didn't think I'd be able to do this. But I can now, yippee!

Franstuff 03/17/2009 #

Does anyone have any tutorials for making fairies? I would like to alter something I have, not sure which something yet, but I want to make sure this is doable before I sign up. Since I have some time, I may try making it before I sign up.

Greenwoodtree 03/18/2009 #

No tutorials that I have...I would just put a fairy together according to how your taste is. Someone did post a link on how to make one type of wings that was pretty easy.I always do things my own way though...I rarely like following other peoples rules. ;-)

Greenwoodtree 03/18/2009 #

I previously had told someone they could make a faerie using a Barbie doll..however, I have changed my mind on this one. Barbie is offensive to some of us, as are the 'Bratz' line of dolls, so please, no one use a Barbie or Bratz doll.

When I talk about re-purposing a doll for this swap, I mean finding one at a thrift or antique store, something special, and really making it special, with every way possible.that means clothing, wings, paint, flowers, wings, glitter, wand, mushrooms, birds, bugs, animals...you know, whatever faeries love.

glendas 03/18/2009 #

any dolly willl do me so long as she looks happy. If that makes since.I have my doll just waiting on what colours my partner wants.

BadKitty 03/23/2009 #

I love love making fairies!!!! Does the actual fairy have to be human form or can it be of some other creature such as bunny?

BadKitty 03/23/2009 #

Oooo, I'd love a Peacock Themed Fairy!

Gramof6 03/29/2009 #

What a wonderful swap. I am hoping for a fairy that has the power to bring gentle breezes and sping buds. the kind and colors are up to the creator. It is more fun if you do something you like. Just put in the power because we had another snow storm yesterday. On another note is the a size limit? Too big? Just thinking that some times the dolls in the thrift stores that are nice are a little larger.

Greenwoodtree 03/30/2009 #

I dont know..size limit can be each persons choice...I would suggest though that no one make one smaller then 4 inches head to toe. If someone wants to use a huge doll form, then they will be responsible for paying the postage expense and packing too.

HeidiPB 03/30/2009 #

spring to me is green buds and bulbs poking up through snow--daffodils and hyacinths and crocuses. but i'm not picky about the fairy. just as long as she looks happy, not sexy (you know the ones I mean...)

tengu2 04/ 1/2009 #

Please do not send me a plastic doll or rubber doll. I am way into natural things. I love fairies that look like they are part of nature. Any colors work for me but I live on a mountain in the woods and love wood, mushroom and flower folk. I even like ugly old nature trolls. Sexy is fine, ugly is fine, unusual and creative is always best.

Greenwoodtree 04/ 3/2009 #

tengu2, I would LOVE to get you as a partner...I tend to go in the same direction with regard to nature spirits, and love using natural materials in my craftings.

ReddFairy 04/ 4/2009 #

Although I have favorite colors, I am open to anything. I like seeing everyone's uniqueness. I would prefer a happy looking fairy for spring. Nothing dark or gothic. This should be fun.

sonyaoku 04/ 4/2009 #

I'm with you ReddFairy nothing dark or gothic.

curlygirl 04/ 5/2009 #

I'm open to whatever my partner decides to make. If my partner wants to use an animal instead of human image that is fine with me. I love natural and earthtone colors, but spring/pastels are fine, too. This is a great swap idea!

annan 04/ 5/2009 #

i want to make a fairy.. can you please notifyme if you make another fairy swap.

debbiespoms 04/ 7/2009 #

I like all greens, except for Olive, yuk! I also love purples, bright pinks, black,Aran, and bright blue.
