Description:

This is an international version of hmross's swap. Thank you for letting me create the swap.

For this swap we will use an A5 notebook or journal with at least 80 pages. We will then fill it with news that happens in your area. You can clip the news out of your newspaper or you can do printouts off your local newspapers website if they have one. Either one is fine.

A minimum of 15 news articles need to be used each week. Make sure you use several issues of the newspaper each week. Do not use the same day's paper for all 15 articles. The articles can be serious, funny, heartwarming, tear jerking, please try to have a good mix.

This swap does not have to be tailored to anyone's profile, just try to stay away from any pics or anything that may really gross someone out. This will be a good way to see what happens in the others towns and cities. Remember use your local newspaper only.

For those of you who may have more than 1 local newspaper you can use 1 of them or a combination of newspapers. Just make sure you include local news only.

Note: You can start your journal now or you can wait until partners are assigned. :) You must have a 4.8 rating at least, Newbies welcome with a fully filled out profile, no recent no sends. I reserve the right to ban those I deem unsuitable.

This sounds really interesting, but I don't know what an A5 notebook is. I see you're in the UK so maybe that's a common size over there? Can you give me the approximate size? I was given a bunch of journals that are about 5 x 7 inches, or maybe it's 6 x 8. Too small? Too large?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_size :) an a5 page is basically an a4 or standard printer paper page, folded in half horizontally .

meanwhile what a beautiful swap idea for the curious! xxsihu

This is a great idea! Sadly I can't join as I'm from Spain and nearly anyone could read my area news!

This is a great idea, I am the same as Cygni and I am from Spain no one could read my area news!

I hadn't thought of the possible language problems. I studied French in school and would love it if I got a notebook from there. I also studied Spanish and a little German. My sister-in-law's from Mexico so she could translate anything I didn't understand in Spanish. Now that I think of it, my 15-yr-old nephew is studying Spanish in school and translating such a notebook would be a wonderful exercise for him! Maybe notebooks in other languages could have a brief (couple of sentences) translation of what the article is about?

I was just rereading the instructions and noticed that you say "A minimum of 15 news articles need to be used each week." "Each week" implies that we'll be collecting articles for a number of weeks, so how many weeks, and how many articles total? Or is "a minimum of 15" how many we need to have and as soon as we have that many we can mail the journal off to our partner?

I hope it's okay to use a hard back (composition or "marble") notebook. The smaller notebooks here have less than 80 pages, and the next up would be the thick 3 subject notebooks that have about 120, and are kinda thick. The composition notebook has 100 pages, and the hard covers make them pretty durable.
I second the question of how many weeks are we supposed to do. I attend university, so I'd like to add some from our local school newspaper also, would that be okay. Oh, and I wouldn't mind non-English articles either, that's a good idea to add a translation, AncientPlanter. I'll get started on mine today.

Is this a filled out with your writing journal? Or do we leave some comments and embellishment and the rest open-ended?
