Virtual Travel around the World

Welcome to the Virtual Travel around the World swap!

During times like this it is basically impossible to travel. This swap will give everyone who participates the opportunity to virtually travel to their swap partners country. There will only be one participant per country, so everyone can go to a different country. To make this possible, please write your country in the comments when you sign up. If you see that your country is already in the comments, please do not sign up for this swap. Only the first person per country will be able to join this swap.

This swap has two parts:

1. Write an e-mail to your partner. Tell them about your country. You can also include pictures and links to YouTube videos with music from your country for example. If you can, add a recipe for a dish that is from your country so your swap partner can try it. Keep in mind that some ingredients might be hard to get in other countries, especially during this situation. Have a look at you swap partners profile to see what they are interested in, that might help you decide what to put into the e-mail. If the language spoken in your country is not English you can teach your partner some words from your language.

2. Videochat with your partner to show them your world. This might sound a little weird at first, but it will definitely be an experience for both you and your partner, especially because many of us are quarantined/isolated at the moment and have only talked to their family members in the last few weeks. Think about what you are going to show and tell before the Videochat. Maby you can teach them how to pronounce some words from your language or dialect. If you know how to play a musical instrument you can try to play a song from your region or country. If you decide to Videochat on your phone or tablet you might be able to show them your home, craft room or garden. You do not have to show your face if you do not want to. If you do not know what to show your partner, you can ask them what they would like to see or just talk about your everyday life or some traditions from your country or region. You do not have to Videochat for a long time, a few minutes is enough.

Places to Videochat: Skype, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, Hangouts.. (these are all free)

You can choose the platform for your Videochat. Please talk to your swap partner about it. You can use the Swap-bot Messages or e-mail for that. You will also have to find the right time to Videochat.

Please try to send your e-mail until April 10th. If your partner is okay with it you can choose to do the Videochat after the „send your items by“ date, if you can’t find a time that is good for both of you before that date.
