Description:

I LOVE making origami lucky stars, and if you do too, or if you love origami and would like to learn how to do these, join in!

For this swap, you will have one partner. You will send this partner one container full of lucky stars. The stars can be any color, varying sizes, and the jar can be creative (for instance, a glass salt shaker, little jam jar, or apothecary bottle; or a simple baby food jar) and you may leave it plain (ie, not decorated).

With your jar of stars, please include a bit of inspiration on paper--a quote or poem that you find meaningful.

This is international, and you must have a 4.9 rating with at least a few actual mail item swaps under your belt. (if you have less than a 4.9 rating, but a good reason, pm me).

Have fun!

Here's a tutorial, if you need reminding: how to make an origami lucky star

For my origami stars, I use both pre-cut strips, and strips that I cut from origami and scrapbooking paper.

Is there a minimum, maximum guideline on the size of the jar? i have always wanted to do these stars, exciting!!

leahsimone 01/14/2009 #

I think the minimum would be something along the size of a small baby food jar--maximum the sky's the limit!

HoneyBunny 01/14/2009 #

Too funny, I was just thinking about wanting a jar of these! I am in my swap limit right now but will watch this one, maybe I can join on the 31st. Yay!

leahsimone 01/14/2009 #

HI HoneyBunny, that is funny; hope you can join us!

Jex 01/14/2009 #

I´d love to join, but I live in Mexico and I´m afraid my jar get to my partner broken. Could it be a plastic jar? Just my opinion...´cuz the partner who is sending to me its going tohave the same problem...and everybody who lives in different countries...

P.S. I was looking for a swap like this, awesome!

leahsimone 01/14/2009 #

Hi Jex--it can definitely be a plastic jar if you're worried about breakage; no problem!

Jex 01/14/2009 #

Excellent! I´ll join right now!! n__n

Lynnie 01/14/2009 #

I wish I could join, I have the supplies to make a ton of these little stars but have never figured out how it's done even with the instructions. I even had my son and husband try, but they had no luck either....if anyone could give me any hints that would be great. I really want to learn how. Do you start off with the ends the same length? Wish there was a viedo out there to watch.

fsjbrit 01/14/2009 #

Hi Lynnie,

I too was having a hard time learning, but i found this video on youtube, as i find things easier if i can see someone else do them. The video is in slow motion so you have time to watch and try it as it goes. Anyway hopefully this will help you out. You can also just type in 'how to make lucky stars' on the youtube search and a few other demos will pop up for you. GOod Luck:)

Oh fsjbrit thank you so much!

This looks like a lot of fun! I'll have to watch for now (at my limit) but will be able to join by the 31st! Tanks for the tutorial!

katerbear44 01/14/2009 #

awesomne swap idea! So cool!

orangeapeel 01/15/2009 #

do the stars have to be made of paper? sometimes i make mine out of sturdy deco tape.....and i have a small bottle i want to use, it's a bit taller than a baby food far, but it's also much skinner, i'm guessing it might be too small then?

leahsimone 01/15/2009 #

Orangeapeel--that's neat about the deco tape. Do you press two pieces together to make a strip, then? And I think you can use your judgment about the container--

lilacamy931 01/15/2009 #

As I am in the UK I would like to send a plastic container too, would a plastic drinks bottle (like a cola bottle) be a bit bad? I would pretify it up! Sorry to ask lots of questions!

leahsimone 01/15/2009 #

Hi lilacamy--sure, why not? That sounds creative, especially if you beautify it! : )

leahsimone 01/15/2009 #

Oh, my smiley face got broken up in the formatting!

PurpleTX 01/15/2009 #
