Description:

This swap is in conjunction with the Victorian Reading Challenge at Belle's Library. (www.belleslibrary.com) YOU DO NOT HAVE TO JOIN THAT CHALLENGE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS SWAP. (But you should...there's prizes involved!)

For this swap, you will commit to read at least one book written during or about the Victorian era. Then you'll send a postcard to your partner, telling them the name and author of the book you're reading and how it's progressing. You don't have to have finished it by the time you send your card, but read enough to give your partner a general positive or negative recommendation.

*Books published during the Victorian age (1837-1901) are acceptable.

*Books written about the Victorian age are acceptable, no matter what year they were published.

*Stories are not limited to Victorian Britain. Read about what was going on in other parts of the world during this time!

Postcards should be sent without an envelope; but if your partner's profile specifies an envelope preference, it is your choice to mail it that way, if you'd like. Postcards can be handmade (and sturdy!) or store bought.

PM me with questions...I fully admit to a groggy start this New Year's morning and understand that I may not be making myself totally clear.

Blessings and Happy New Year!

I found the website and it is darling. I will join the tea and book challenge there. Did you mean to only give us one week to read a book for this challenge?

Ok technically I do see we have til the 25th to send the PC, but I was counting the day from sign up to send date. It is really better to look at the due date is 25 days away.

Yes, this is a swap that might take a month or two to catch on but once people are aware of it, I think they'll plan ahead to read at least one a month and be ready for it when it comes. I wanted a short span between sign up and send dates so those who tend to max out their monthly swap limits wouldn't feel wary about joining and having it on their list so long.

I read this portion Stories are not limited to Victorian Britain. Read about what was going on in other parts of the world during this time! & thought to myself "Ha ha! You really mean it?" Then I went looking for Indian authors of the 19th century. This is before "Bengal Renaissance" , & Wikipedia lists only a handful of such authors, & I've not heard of any of them, not at least in writing context! This is very interesting! Thanks for setting me up for this!!

Yes, it will be very fun to see what we can discover! A friend told me yesterday she was wary of joining the challenge as she'd already chosen a large stack of reading for the year and few of them fit the years indicated. Then it occurred to her that much of the Native American stories she'd chosen would fall into this category. We think "Victorian" and we center on England and flowery children's tales---but there was so much going on in the world in the 19th century---and many diverse places that Victoria, herself, had influence over! (Like India!)

RooBaRoo - this collection might be helpful in tracking down other Indian 19th century authors.
