Description:

Need to get out of your comfort zone in reading? Find "read x no. of books" to be too mundane to be a challenge? Looking to try a book in a new-to-you genre? Or looking for an excuse to read a book off your Mt. To Be Read? Every month, we'll explore a different genre by reading a single book and sharing our thoughts with our partner. This is a returning swap, it used to be hosted in Carpe Librum earlier, by @KateKintail Welcome, & Welcome back :)

September Genre is Historical Fiction

Please bear in mind that this is fictional, i.e., the main characters are more or less fictional, but the events in the background are factual, & more or less accurate. (If you find one with fictional treatment of a historical figure, a real person, it is fine too, as long as the chronology is right). This might overlap with other genres, like mystery, romance or political critique.

Send an email or swap-bot message to your partners with the following info:

  • Title & author of the book you read

  • Why did you choose this book?

  • A brief summary of the book

  • A brief review--what did you think of it?

  • Your experience with the genre (have you read a lot? a little? was this your first?)

  • Is this book a good representation of this genre?

  • Would you read more from this genre? How did this book contribute to your feel about this genre?

3 partners. Manual filtering because within a group. I will definitely check profiles.

I will angel if required.

Since I am posting late, this swap will close extra 10 days into October.

Future genres will be :

  • Oct 19 : Horror

  • Nov 18 : Mythology (Any country)

  • Dec 18 : Popular science (scientific facts in any discipline, presented interestingly for general public)

Additional challenges can be put up. I'm sure we all read multiple books each month. Do share your interests & let it be as challenging or as comforting to you as you wish. Requests are welcome. Themes which are not really genres? Feminist books? LGBTQ+ hero? Graphic novels? WWII spy novels? Books by a particular author? From a particular country? Let me know. We're up for it :)
