Description:

Welcome to the Wheel of the Year/ Book of Shadows Tip-in Swap Series!

That was a mouthful! LOL!

This is a private Cross-Group swap with the Pagan/Wiccan Swappers and the Crafty Witches

We sincerely wish that no one sign up if they think it's remotely possible that they will flake. You don't have to commit to sign up for all the series, as the random assignment of partners will make sure everyone who participates will get sufficient pages for their complete book.

Sign up dates will be at the New Moon of each month—starting with December 27, 2008.

The mailing date will be the following Full Moon of each month. 2009 has a Blue Moon in December so there will be 13 swaps.

This series of 13 swaps will result, with a little luck and conscientious follow-through by the participants, in a complete Wheel of the Year- Book of Shadows.

The complicated part:

The basic book will be created by each participant, and the partners will be providing the pages that will fill it with beauty and information.

Tip-ins are pages that are created outside of a book, which must be made according to the requirements of the book-holder. Some may be merely three-hole pages for a binder, others will be attached using some bookbinding technique—glued to a group of torn page stubs, or to one side or a spread of pages in an altered book, sewn into a signature for a hand-bound book, altered cds that will be tied or wired together, cards that will fit into pockets, or something else entirely—up to the receiver—a challenge to the maker.

Each month will have a theme based on the Wheel of the Year, which is based on the lunar calendar. There are 8 commonly celebrated (by most European-origin pagans) festivals in the year, and they fall just about every other month. Native American tradition gives names to each moon relative to the natural events throughout the year. Any of these can be used for your monthly theme. As this is going to be an International Swap, check with your partner to see if she follows a particular path that you can research and make a page to fit into, or choose your own to add to the diverse information that will create the Wheel of the Year book.

Information to include on your pages can be recipes for celebratory foods and beverages, prayers or spells, history and folklore, artwork, anything that fits the theme and makes the page interesting.

It is critical that you all post in the Comments section a message with the size and orientation of your book so your partner can make a page that fits. This means think now, before you sign up, about what you want your book to be like when it’s done. Some people use large scrapbook sized pages, others use letter size pages, and others still will use a smaller size.

Do you want one page or an open two-page spread?

The type of binding you will be doing is also important— Do you need three holes along the left of the front of the page?
Do you want the back left blank so you can glue it down? Do you need a ½” margin on the left of the front to glue it into an altered book? Etc, Etc, Etc.
Do some thinking and be as specific as you can on what you need, so your partner can make you a usable page.

Your Comment should look something like this: “My book is 6” wide by 9” tall and will be an altered book, the pages will be attached by gluing them to the stubs of the pages torn out to make room for the Tip-ins. The pages should be “portrait oriented which is taller than wide. Please leave a ½” plain margin on the left side of the front of the page, and put a little bio information on the back. No embellishments thicker than ¼” please.”

OR perhaps” My book is a wooden bound book 12” wide by 12” long. The pages can be made on standard scrapbook size cardstock, and will need 1 ½ ” of clear margin for the holes to be punched for my binding. And please orient your work so that the binding margin is to the left and the top is “up” relative to that side.”

My WotY/BoS is an altered book, so I'd like the pages to be 6" wide and 9" long, with a 1/4" border clear of embellishments all the way around the edge, as I attach them to the back of a "window" cut into larger pages that have been glued together and cut out, making it possible to see both sides of the page--the back can have your artist's bio information, name, e-mail, date and any notes about the piece.

If you feel more like doing a 2-page spread--I'll be assembling it monthly, so I can make a space in between pages to attach it in the valley if it's a folded piece of cardstock or other heavy paper, so you can embellish all of it, but please add a tag with your bio information.

Also, working a crow into the page somewhere is a heart-maker!!

The size I prefer to get is printer size paper, portrait oriantation if possible. (I am not sure of the inches etc. but if anyone wants proper measurements I will look it up) Its basically A4 size paper. As for colours, use any colour you wish! I like blues, turquoise, Dark colours, purples, reds, fuschias, browns, greens, anything really....:) Please put your name somewhere on the peice so I know who made it, if I ever look over it again.

Also, My path is very eclectic, I am more of a Kitchen/Hedgewitch rather than a traditional Wiccan, I think...(Still trying to find myself) and I like a bit of everything. However for this book I would love these types of Art to be included..

Herbal lore,Greenman,Moon Lore, Nature Styles, Deep rich tones, Organic Art, Folklore,Faery realm, Dragons, Celtic Spirituality, Ravens, Invocations, Runes, Ogham Stones, Druidry, Pagan Symbols, Egyptian/Kemeticism, Greek/Hellenic Paganism, Elements, Celtic Knots, Spirals.

However, if you are drawing a Goddess such as Bast, Artemis etc..please decorate using Egyptian and Greek art rather than Celtic, so as to fit in with the theme...

My favourite Goddesses are: Artemis, Bast, Hecate, Bridget, Morrighan. My favourite Gods are: Apollo, Cernunnos, Pan.

My Totems are Black Cat, Owl and Wolf. No Cartoony images, Digital, Trendy Goth, Pre-made or Manga type pixie images. please.

I prefer just one theme per page, rather than a page just lumping everything I listed together.

I hope that helps you and gives you an idea of what I am into, like I say, I am very eclectic especially when it comes to art as I like all kinds you know what I mean?

Here are my infos!

I just wanted to let you all know the dimension of my BOS. I have an 8 1/2" X 11" book, just let me a 3/4 an inch margin so I can punch holes in the pages. Please, do not punch the holes yourself has they have a weird position on the page.

I am an eclectic pagan / green witch. I have a very personal practice, but I relate mostly to the Celtic pantheon. For other informations, you can read my profile and/or message me! :)

I will be altering an old book from 1932 (Willa Cather's "Obscure Destinies"). The tip-ins need to be 5'Wx7'L, portrait oriented. Please leave a 1/4" edge to attach... or a 1/4" edge all the way around. I can work it in, as long as the pages are 5x7. Two page spreads are wonderful, if that is what you want to do.

I am okay with receiving cards, tags, or creative spell boxes also, as I can make pockets, windows, or niches on the pages. I follow a Celtic/Scots path and particularly love herbal remedies and folklore.

Turquoise, the common paper size here is 8.5" x 11".

Hi all! the book I am using is Wheel of the Year by Campanelli...its a paperback...pages are 7" X 10" (10" is long side),and I will need a 3/4" margin to glue the pages into the spine. IM NOT WICCAN..Im pagan, and follow the ancient celtic, norse, gaulish, pictish, druidry ways - also, shamanism, and have studied with Native American folks. I especially dwell on nature, spirits and animals...wilderness and Green Man and ALL Goddesses are also close to my heart. Angelic realm included. Style wise, I am into organic, natural, wyld witch things...no goth, trendy or pre-made please. Love classical Renaissance art, deep jewel tones.. profile has lots more info too. Sorry...I write too much!

Thanks for letting me know the proper size TwoBlueCrows, since I was not sure myself lol!

So yes, 8.5 x 11" size paper is perfect for me :)

tehuti 02/11/2009 #

Sorry, I'm a bit late. I'm using standard A4 format, and will be punching holes to put the pages in a ring binder. If you need to use US letter size that is OK too.

SMBee 02/13/2009 #

Hi, my book is smaller. I will be using photo corners to hold the pages onto existing pages. Anything 3" x 4.5" or smaller will work for me, ATC sized would be great and work well. Only the front can be decorated since the back will be covered but please put your info on the back since it will be removable and I can still see it. It should be portrait orientated, and if you'd like you could send two (since the size is so small) and I can put them on pages facing each other.
