Description:

We're going to do an altered book as "tip ins" only. What this means is that you will contact your two partners and ask what size their book is. NO BOOKS larger then 8x10 (this is not an altered book it's a darn canvas). This might be a good time to maybe put your size in your profile?

You will do two pages for two partners (two tip's per monthly swap). So, partner one get's one page and partner two get's the second page. (Now having said that, you are most welcome to do a two page spread if you would like, it's not required)

This first month we will not have any theme. Just let your creative juices flow....

You must have a filled out profile and a rating of 4 or more with less then two no sents. Newbie's are most welcome as long as they have their profile filled out.

BOOK SIZES:

jakfrostwife: 5.5 x 4 (half of the sheet paper) Angel Faery Kathleen: 8 1/2 x 11 Mickey Betz: 4 x 5 1/2 Jessica: half sheet is 4 & 1/4 x 8 & 1/2 going short ways. Cookiebear: 5.5 x 8.5", or 8.5 x 11 Pixy613: 8.5 x 5.5

Waiting on: vickie for size

REMEMBER YOUR DOING A TWO-PAGE spread! SO if I'm your partner: You would just use a normal size 8.5 x 11(one)and it would split in half as I use it book style!

OK, what an altered book is just what it sounds like (only sometimes you can use a new book, lol) Find an old book at a tag sale or garage sale or even better then that..... go to one of your friends that have lot's of books....I always look for an hard cover but to make it easy on a "first timer" I would even say use an spiral journal book. This will allow you to spread it open and not worry about breaking the spine. You are going to let your self paint, cut, glue...staple, rip, stamp, poke holes, add all kinds of things that shouldn't be on a piece of paper.....the list is endless. Just think of it as a "canvas" or a card if your a rubber stamper.

By having a theme it just makes it fun to see what everyone else comes up with for a theme.

THESE have no purpose EXCEPT they are works of art, and are a great outlet for the artist in you! (By having other people work in your altered book, you get to see other artist in action).

A "Tip in" is just what it sounds like......you create a page (no pictures tho) of an altered page or two (that is a spread....think of opening a book and it's "spread open"...) that the person that you are mailing to will "tip it in". It will look like it was always there.....they will glue or sew or some how attach the page to their book.

OK, right before we close this swap I will ask you all to post your book size. If you like you can post to it now and I will clean up the comment area before the swap begins. You will measure the size of the page as it is in your book ....don't make it larger or smaller.....the idea is that this "tip in" should look like it's been in a round robin all ready...... For this swap we will be using US measurements....sorry I can find a chart for those that might need it.....

One think I learned today at the US postoffice is that any thing going "overseas" doesn't have to have the custom form filled out if it's paper (or has embellishments)...of course that could change next week....knowing the post office (lol)

I like to use 8.5 X 11 size paper, fold it in half, cut it on the fold, then decorate accordingly. The design can go from the left side to the right side and will look good once it is attached to the book. I will download some examples of what I have done in the past. These are are a lot of fun and you get to have other peoples' art to share!!!

Well, I guess I can't put any pictures on the site, what's up with that?? You can go to my Flickr account and look at the altered books, tipins sets. http://flickr.com/photos/iowascrapmouse

Hi, my sixe is 8 1/2 x 11, lay landscape and fold down center to make a folded page. thanks

Iowascrapemouse 04/ 9/2007 #

My page size is 4 by 5 1/2 inches.

cookiebear 04/14/2007 #

This is exciting! My page size is 5.5 x 8.5", or 8.5 x 11" if you like to work large. :-D

If my partner could sign the FRONT of the page, that would be great as the backs won't show-- unless they got carried away and decorated that as well. [chuckle, chuckle] A tag with your name, contact info and as much of your geographical location and/or bio as you're comfortable with would be neat as well. I'd like incorporate them into a table of contents. Thanks!

I have been debating on this for a bit now & decided to join.

My size is a regular sheet of paper folded in half. So 5 & 1/2 inches wide and 8 & 1/2 tall.. with a 1/2 inch margin on the long side left blank for binding. I hope that makes sense.

I am collecting these sizes so eventually I will bind them together. I also have my kids doing this size for me to add to it too hehe.

OK, again for some reason swap=bot won't let me assign. I think we have to PASS the 15th in order to get the green light so to speak!~ Keep looking checking .....jakfrostwife

jakfrostwife 04/15/2007 #

I also cleaned up the site so if your missing your comment, that's what happened!

I'll check back soon as it's 8pm pst and I can't seem to assign anyone????

jakfrostwife 04/15/2007 #

OK, what I did was backdate the swap to the 14th. I guess you have to wait until the 15th comes and go's??? OH well, they are assigned now!

I've asked the two that have not stated the size of their tip-in's to please let me know so that I can post it!

Happy swapping! Jakfrostwife
