Hi All, I am a newbie and have signed up for this one. Can't wait to find out who my partner is. Thankx

chrichri 03/ 9/2007 #

Hi everyone

I'm into the metric system and I have a question about whether my understanding of two fat quarters is right:

Is two Fat Quarters the same as 18 inches x 44 inches or a metric measurement of 46 cm x 112 cm? And when you say two fat quarters; do you mean two cut quarters of fabric or one single length of fabric?

I know I must sound stupid but I would rather be certain I have understood the swap correctly before joining.

Thanks

This will help a LOT. And it has a nifty way to package one up as a gift. http://quilting.about.com/od/giftsforquilters/ss/foldfatquarter3.htm (for the finished gift photo) and http://quilting.about.com/od/giftsforquilters/ss/fold_fatquarter.htm for the instructions (and it explains about fat quarters) "one-fourth yard cuts of fabric that measure about 18" x 22". They are created by dividing a yard of fabric into four large rectangles instead of cutting it into typical 9" x 44" quarter-yard cuts across the fabric's crosswise grain."

Craftlover10101 03/ 9/2007 #

Do the fat quaters need to be prewashed? Or does it matter? Thx

collectedmess 03/10/2007 #

Chrichri: as far as I understand it, a fat quarter is 18"x22". Basically, a half yard of fabric cut in half. (I can't do the metric thing, sorry!)

Heather: Washing is entirely up to you, but I usually just let the person I'm swapping fabric with wash it because I don't want to wash it in something they may be allergic to or not like the smell of. If you wash it, do try to iron it before sending!

I sent my fat envelope off to Turkey Saturday, I hope it doesn't take too long to get there, it's supposed to go air mail. The good news is I looked up the postal rate on the internet and was surprised [why?] that that's exactly what it cost. Which was not as much as I had feared.

Craftlover10101 03/20/2007 #

LOL I was surprised at what it cost to send a post card to the UK, so I know not to be surprised now at something I send out ot the US lol.

user6602 03/20/2007 #

I sent mine to Kate today, it usually takes 7 to 10 days airmail over the pond. I put a little extra piece in the pack for you too.

Kind regards,

UK Girl

I hate to sound stupid. But what the heck does -lol- mean? Its in alot of other swap comments and its driving me batty not to be smart enough to figure it out.

Craftlover10101 03/26/2007 #

LOL - laughing out loud and don't worry there are tons of things people write that I still have to ask what it means and i've been online for 11 1/2 yrs lol

niecedenise 03/26/2007 #

Thankgoodness it is that easy. I thought maybe it was that over the hill thing. I'm 53 and not real savvy.

Hi Leslie!

Just a quick word to let you know I just sent your package today. I hope you will like it.

chrichri 04/ 5/2007 #

Hi Derya!

I am sorry but I don't know your screen name so I can't email you:(

I just received your two nice fat quarters. Are they linen by any chance? They have such a gorgeous feel and texture to them. I loved opening your package; the smell of the lavender sachet you made hit me immediately, so lovely. The pink and the green buttons are so pretty and unique. I also liked the pendant/bead you included, is it what you call an "evil eye" that is meant to protect you? (in which case; thanks for that;) The trim you sent is the most intricate and delicate of things, I just love it!

Thanks for everything!

Christina
