Flat Me Swap and Journal Part I-The Flat Me Paper Doll

This will be a TWO-PART SWAP! Please plan to participate in BOTH swaps or this will not work! Here's a link to Part 2: http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/229901

Have you ever wanted to do more traveling? If you have participated in the Traveling PC or letter swaps you may have wished you could’ve gone along for the adventure. Well, in this swap, you can!

In order to have this adventure you need to create a flat version of yourself (like Flat Stanley) on cardstock or other sturdy material. Below is a link to an article about a similar swap with a template you can use if you wish. Feel free to make your own, but please keep the dimensions small enough to fit in a 5 x7 envelope. Scroll down almost to the bottom for the template. http://susanreynolds.blogs.com/artist/flat_stanley/index.html

Send your doll to your partner who will take the flat 'you' out and about and record her adventures in a journal. Take the doll you receive along wherever you go—I took the one I got to get a mani-pedi with me (hilarious photo!). Take a walk around your neighborhood, go to school, church, wherever you go—the adventure is seeing a new place! Be sure to take a photo with the Flat doll in it wherever you go, then write a short entry about the adventure. Please make at least 10 entries with images to put in the journal and send back to your partner. Find some fun mementos to put in the journal as well—pretty leaves, tickets to a movie you saw, a menu from your favorite place… whatever! If you go on a trip, take her along! My Flat Me got to go on a private plane to the All Star Game one year!

In Part 2 of the swap (in October) partners will mail the doll and journal back so you can all read about your adventures!

Your journal should include photos (with the flat me), writing, and anything interesting you collect on the way--postcards, menus, tickets, whatever!

This swap will take 2 months to complete as mailing times are different for everyone. After 2 months we all should have received, completed and posted back out our journals.I'll post Part 2 today as well. Please sign up for BOTH!

Start making your flat doll as soon as you sign up for Part 1, so you can send it out within a week of the sign-up deadline. Any questions please contact me. :)

Part 2 will be the partner taking the photos of the doll’s adventures, making the journal, and returning them to the owner. You will send your assigned partner an email with scanned images (Choose at least 5, but you can send them all if you choose) of the photos and completed journal.

This swap takes time and effort (as well as some expense, so sorry, no newbies on this occasion. 4.9 and above please. Sorry if this seems redundant; I'm trying to be as clear as I can! Questions? Ask below and I’ll clarify.

Remember to sign up for BOTH swaps. I will ban anyone who is in only one of the swaps.

This sounds like so much fun!

Really a super idea, great swap!!! What a pity it isn't international! :-(

for part 2 are we only receiving our journals via email or will we get the original in the mail as well?

AnitaHames 09/10/2016 #

This sounds like a lot of fun, and I was going to join, but I have so much work this semester with my job and my classes, so I'm going to have to pass. I hope you will do another one when I'm not so busy!

Your partner will be sending back your still and the journal of their adventures. Their assigned partner will get an email with a message and are least 5 images from the journal.

I made out regional because of the cost of sending the journal. Please feel free to host an international one if you like!

To clarify: this is in two parts because when it was fine in the past, partners who received a doll, didn't have any accountability to return it with the photos and journal. Not many flaked like that, but if it happened to you, you lost your doll and didn't get to see her adventures, and there was no way to rate them down! That's why I made it 2 parts and added the email images to the assigned partner. At least they can rate them down if nothing is sent. I hope that helps! It's really less complicated than it seems.

Okay so the assigned partner on Part 2 (that we send pics to) is a different partner than sending the journal and doll back to it's original owner? At least that's the way I read it. :)

I am doing a couple of these with some ladies I know on Facebook and we used a simple journal for these. 8.5" x 11" card stock cover with 3-4 pages inside. (stapled or I used cording) I also made a pocket inside the front cover to hold the doll. Easy to travel with her on the adventures. Also another idea is I am putting the name of my city and state on the outside front cover somewhere.

@Busyb Yes, that's right. SB assigns the partners, so it is possible but not likely that you get the same person. That's why I made it two parts. So each can get rated and get the doll and journal back to the owner. I like your journal ideas. It doesn't need to be a big purchased book. Just large enough for the 10 images and commentary. Please include your location!

I made copies of my doll, and will send one to my partner with the original and keep one for myself. Things can happen to paper so it doesn't hurt to be prepared. When I get my partner's doll, I will copy it as well.

@carol I should have said 'folded in half' The card stock and papers are folded in half so it makes the booklet 8.5" x 5.5" a good little pocket sized. Can't wait to see who my partner is! Thanks for hosting this fun swap. My location will be on the inside. I'll post one that I made up already on my Flickr (which you can get to from my home page)

can you assign partners asap? I will be leaving Sunday and will be in and out of town during the swap time and would like to take the flat Stanley along.
