Description:

This will be a swap for folk in the United States Only to keep a handle on shipping costs.

The idea behind this swap is to fill one flat rate box (the box with inside dimensions of 11" X 8 1/2" x 5 1/2") with fabric from your stash to give another seamstress, quilter, or crafter some fresh fabric and inspiration.

Please keep the majority of the scraps above 5" square minimum. A few under that are ok, but make sure no pieces are less than 2" square and 3/4 of the stash needs to be above that 5" minimum.

Because the rest of the swap shouldn't cost participants any money, please do ship your fabric in that flat rate box.

You must have a rating of at least 4.9 to participate. Newbies can participate but do email me so I can be sure you won't flake.

I like the idea of this swap. Love fabric need inspiration. Is the fabric expected to be 100% cotton or does anything go?

junemoon 09/15/2008 #

There was one like this not long ago and I thought it was great. I hope more people will sign up, of course there's a good bit of time yet.

Katiecakes 09/19/2008 #

I hadn't thought of fabric fiber. If you have a preferance please feel free to state it, here in the comments. I think it'd be great if we could keep the fabric to cotton or cotton blends, but understand some others might slip in now and then.

myhalfofthebrain 09/22/2008 #

I'll sign up for this again, but need to do some quick swaps to get rated and not be a newbie

acommonthread 09/23/2008 #

I'm okay with getting any type of fabric. I like to use wool for the bag I make.

TinLizzie 09/23/2008 #

I'm more of a traditional quilter and prefer cottons, on the other hand I don't have any strong preferences about colors or prints. I like surprises :-)

sewandgrow 09/25/2008 #

I have tons of 100% cotton for quilting but am open to other fibres also. I love to do crazy quilt type piecing for Christmas stockings so glitzy & satiny or brocades work well for that & I am totally into trying wool felting so I should be way easy for someone. Mix it all up if you want. Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope whoever I get "to sent" to is very specific about her choices so I can pick all the things she will like to fill her box. Color choices are a great help in choosing. Karen in California

I am a newbie, but I would love to participate in this swap, because I buy my fabric from a uniform manufacturer by the pound and the new home I am moving to is low on storage, and I would enjoy new patterns and colors to add to my stash. please e-mail me back to let me know if I can participate.

sames 09/30/2008 #

I am a newbie as well and am would really like to participate! I am doing a scrap log cabin quilt (5" squares - finished size: King) and would love to incorporate some new 'scraps'.
Fabric preference: 100% cotton. Color preference: Oh, golly (yes, I really do say golly). A good mix of colors (solids, novelty, pastel, vintage, repro, etc). I have really been in to mid-century fabrics lately - so those would be great, too! Cannot wait!!!!

creativebebe 09/30/2008 #

I wasn't going to sign-up for more swaps until I got my life organized and de-cluttered....but this fits right into my priorities! :) I have sooooooo much fabric! cotton calicos, dressmaker remnants, drapery sample book pieces, etc.... I am open to whatever my partner sends....but if I had to say what my favorite would be....it would be any vintage fabric! I especially loooooooove fabric from the 30's, 40's and 50's. :)

rubberstampcollector 09/30/2008 #

Need some new fabric for my dotees. :)

beepbeep 09/30/2008 #

I am also a newbie!!! This is ver exciting!!! I use alot of cotton for my various projects...any colors and prints makes no difference to me. I also use alot of fleece this time of year. Love the comments so makes it sooo easy to decide what to load my box with!!!!

beancounter17 09/30/2008 #

I would appreciate decent quality 100% cotton fabrics. I am making quilts to donate, so I would like to make them as sturdy as possible. I am currently working on a Quilt for the Cure (cheery pinks, etc) and several veterans quilts (red/white/blue, masculine-ish, etc. If that's not part of your stash, I also love 1930s repro prints, Thimbleberries, and Mary Engelbreit. Also feel free to PM me with any questions. Thanks!!

when will we know who is assigned to swap with us

sweetavalanche 10/ 1/2008 #

I'm sure Katiecakes will assign partners any minute now...

I'd really love cotton quilting fabrics, and here are a few categories that I'd especially love: 1) novelty prints or bright colors of any sort (for Project Linus quilts); 2) any mix of bright red, orange, and/or hot pink (for a quilt for my daughter); 3) any mix of robin egg's blue, light green, brown and/or white (for decorating my office); 4) holiday fabrics of any sort (xmas, halloween, valentines, etc.). In my wildest dreams, I'd love anything from a trendy line (Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, Kaffe Fassett, etc.).

junemoon 10/ 1/2008 #

I'm a quilter and make quite a few quilts for charities. I'd prefer cottons, though I've been known to use poly/cotton blends. No particularly color preference but I'm trying to eliminate calicos [but they're good for backs of baby quilts if color is light] I really don't like big trendy prints and especially like the "reads as" fabrics where the printed color only slightly changes the over all impression of a solid. Batiks are fantastic. LIttle dots and all kinds of stripes are great. I no longer sew garments so it's quilty stuff for me.

Strungalong 10/ 1/2008 #

I am interested in making belts with a pattern I have been saving, so adult-design cottons will help with that. I like grays, browns, reds, and blacks for myself. I make scarves for my dogs, so crazy prints are welcome. I'll take current holiday fabrics (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas). I am new to sewing, so I will basically take anything you have. That way, I will be challenged to think of a way to use it. Thanks!!!!!!!

TinLizzie 10/ 2/2008 #

I'm a quilter too, so I'd prefer 100% cotton, but I have no real preferences for colors or patterns at the moment. And Jo-Ann/bargain store fabric is fine as long as it is not poor quality (see through, mis-printed...that sort of thing). I've found some great fabrics from major names at bargain shops :-) ! I personally love batiks, and tone on tones, jewel tones, Florentine style prints, black & whites. But I also like to stretch my imagination and work with new colors and styles I wouldn't normally choose for myself, so please don't feel compelled to pick my faves. Just let me know if you've pre-washed or not so I can if you haven't. Thanks! :-) This is my first swap on swap-bot and I'm really looking forward to it.

myhalfofthebrain 10/ 2/2008 #

I'm a quilter, too, so I prefer cottons, too, but other materials are good for dotees, so throwing some of those in would be OK. I also wouldn't mind if you threw some trim in, too, or sewing notions. I'm all about surprises for this one, so I'm not choosy about colors or designs.

Rollerwriter 10/ 2/2008 #

I love fabric and recently did another swap like this-it was fantastic. I am not a quilter so it doesn't have to be cotton for me. I just love to look at a great piece of fabric and figure out what to do with it. So please make it not too cutesy, I don't have any little ones in my life right no and it would be wasted on me. Other than that surprise me.

Shunghila4u 10/ 4/2008 #

Ok, I love to do fabric swaps and collect dragonflys and butterflys but any fabric will work other then cord. Hope to do this type of swap again real soon...

pinkdiamond 10/ 4/2008 #

I prefer 100% cotton and like warm rich colors. Actually, I do love colorful fabs. Just give me the nicest of the nicest!!!!! I'll be in heaven! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

TinLizzie 10/ 9/2008 #

I got my box today and it is chock full of lovely things! Thanks myhalfofthebrain ! :-)

I took a picture and thought I uploaded it, but it is not showing up in the gallery. I don't want to do it again on the chance that it just takes swap-bot a while to put them up. Maybe my original was too large. Anyone have any input on this for a newbie?

sames 10/ 9/2008 #

My box arrived yesterday! Thanks so much for the scraps, goodies, notions and card!!!! It was fun to go thru the fabric. I only already had 1 of the yellows (one of my faves so glad to have some more of it)!!
