Description:

I have absolutely fallen in love with button fairies, making them as well as hanging them in my craft room. It's been a while since there was a swap for them, so it's time to do it again.

For this swap, you will have three partners and will make one button fairy for each. This will be entirely your choice on color and design.

Even if you have never made one before, don't be afraid to join us. I have made a tutorial that is posted on my flikr account and there are some wonderful examples in the button fairy pool on flikr. They don't have to be made exactly like the tutorial, it is just meant as a guideline to help you get started. Use your creativity and make them your own. Please, just do your best.

This is an international swap, so please keep that in mind for shipping charges, usually a small padded envelope is sufficient for mailing unless you are using fragile materials.

Now for the other "stuff"

Everyone must have:
...a completed profile
...at least a 4.7 rating
...No recent no-sends or questionable swapper activity
If there is something on your profile that needs explaining, please send me a message doing so.

Newbies must also have:
...completed five swaps with ratings, e-mail swaps and list swaps do not count towards the 5 swaps, they must be regular mail swaps.

I will be running these swaps periodically, so if you don't make it in this time, there will be another.

If I need to remove anybody from the swap, I will be doing so before I assign partners and will be thoroughly checking profiles at this time.

If you don't plan on sending, don't join!

Lastly, get creative and have fun !

Hiya

i have joined up for the swap, cant wait to begin :)

Im having a problem thou, i looked at the tutorial and have succesfull made my first button fairy, but i cant seem to finish the back, i cut a peice the same size but it sits weird because of the wire,

is it okay to leave as it is or does everyone add the card to cover the back

Hugs

Not everyone covers the back, it's just something I like to do.

The card on the back of mine don't sit flat either, what I usually do before I glue it on is to lay the piece on the back of the button fairy and then run my thumbnail(stylus works well also) along both sides of the wire, this gives the wire space and allows the backing to lay flat everywhere else. If I still end up with a gap between the back pieces where the wire is, I just squirt some white glue into the space and let it dry overnight.

Hope this all makes sense, let me know if it doesn't

Hiya

thanks for that :)

I think with my first (which i love) i will just cover the wire with a small peice of card,

I will learn to get better :)

Also im in the uk and struggerling to find the wire what gauge does it need to be

Any 22 or 24 gauge wire(not sure if wire in the UK follows the same sizing) will work.

Thicker wire is harder to work with and thinner wire tends to leave the fairies too floppy.

Some people have also used pipe cleaners and wired ribbon.

There really is no right way to make these, everyone has their own way which works for them. I made this tutorial because a lot of people were commenting that they would like to make them but couldn't find any instructions.

This is one of my favorite craft fun ideas that I did last year. Thanks for hosting this one. I have tons of buttons to use and pictures. Stephanie (from Phx.,Az.)

craftcrazy 07/17/2008 #

i forgot to ask, how long do the tails have to be ?

solarts 07/18/2008 #

Good question. Craftcrazy.

redwing480 07/18/2008 #

There's no particular length since it depends on the number and size of buttons that you use, but, I guess they usually end up being about 5"-6" when finished. Although, I've received some larger and some smaller than that.

craftcrazy 07/19/2008 #

Great,

After making my first one, i have got addicted, i made another yesterday and going to make 2 more today,

I managed to find some wire, its still a bit to thick but as long as i use pliers its okay, lol

Also if you are after buttons, have a look on ebay under collectables, then sewing, then buttons, then mixed lots you will find big batches of vintage buttons of all sorts of colours, shapes, etc for around $10, i brought i big batch from ebay uk and it cost me £7 (around $14) for over 50000, lol

My kids loved sorting through them all, and now i have a lovely selction to choose from

Kewl! Thanks for the info. craftcrazy. Also on Etsy they have tons of craft items anyone can order. I have found tons of awesome buttons at some antique stores and thrift stores too. What is so fun is to use these small clear flat rocks for the faces. By placing a photo of a face behind it and make sure you use clear glue so it doesn't show up on the flat rock. Hot glue the flat rock face onto the fairy. It's pretty fun.

I received all of my fairies and I tried loading one of the photos of the fairy. The one photo doesn't seem to go through. Has anyone tried loading one of their fairy photos lately? I'm having trouble loading mine.

solarts 09/19/2008 #

When anyone has a chance please check out some of the photos of the button fairies that I sent and received. I loaded up a couple of photos and soon the rest of them. Please share some of your photos of your button fairies. I would love to see them too.

I love the three fairies you got. Beautiful. Check mine out in my profile under Flicker .Then click into koiart section and the fairy photos are under the section My Art. Soon I will find the other photos of the fairies that I got. I can't seem to find the other two photos that I took with our digital camera. Redwing is that an actual fake white flower that is attached to your blue winged fairy?

solarts 09/19/2008 #
