Canopic Jar CHALLENGE for the Dark Hearted!

The CHALLENGE is to alter one jar for one swap partner. Let's say a minimum of 10" tall.

I would like only those who really want to strech creatively and produce a true work of art to join this one!

I am inviting Dark Hearted Group Officers and select others to participate. Additional folks will be considered if they pm me.

At minimum, the folling criteria will be applied: no recent no sends, rating of 4.8 or more, and 10+ handmade swaps completed. I will review swap histories of participants closely and ban if necessary.

As for source materials and references, you'll easily find lots of images and history on the net. The skinny is, canopic jars were used among the ancient Egyptians to store various internal organs removed during the process of mummification.

These jars were commonly made of limestone, pottery, wood, or bronze. Often their design was associated with one of the Four Sons of Horus. Duamutef, the jackal-headed, Qebehsenuef, the falcon-headed, Hapi, the baboon-headed or Imseti, the human-headed. Jars have been found with hieroglyphyics and figures of the gods painted on the sides of the jars.

That was then. This is now. Feel free to interpret this project in a modern way. I'm thinking use an exisiting jar and alter it with paper mache, paper clay, polymer clay, soft sculpture... let your dark hearted imaginations soar!!
