Description:

The holiday season approaches, so let's make a fun junk journal for Christmas to send to a partner. Here are the guidelines; the rest is up to you.

This swap is USA only for those who can't afford international postage.

  • the journal should have a Christmas theme. You may use scrapbook paper as an accent and/or decorative element. You can be as be creative as you'd like in the papers that you use for pages. Scrapbook papers can be used for the tags/insert pieces
  • each two-page spread should have at least one Christmas element
  • it is fine to use stickers on some pages as decorative items, but please use other items as well
  • journal should have at least 12 separate pages/leaves (or at least 24 pages counting front and back)
  • make whatever type of cover you'd like. Decorate the cover, but do leave room for your partner to add personal touches.
  • bind any way you choose
  • please keep the size of the journal under 8X10. You might check with your partner to see what size they would like..
  • add at least two pockets and two tags/tuck-ins
  • let's recycle and re-purpose papers as much as possible.

If you have any Christmas themes that you really like or intensely dislike, please say so in the comments section. I would ask that you try to honor your partner's likes and dislikes, but this is sender's choice in the end.

If you have questions, please ask.

I will angel if you don't receive a swap.

Swap requirements: You'll need to have a rating of 4.90 or better and a well filled-out profile. Newbies are welcome with a completed profile. No recent or unexplained 1s or 3s. No flakers.

I am setting the swap so that the Swap-bot software will automatically refuse anyone who does not meet the 4.90 minimum requirement, unless you are new and unrated.

Is this for USA only, as you state in the swap description, or is it international? The header has it as international...? Thanks.

Sorry about that. It is now set for USA Only.

Several questions just to ensure I would do this correctly: 1. We can or cannot use scrapbook paper as pages (not all of the pages just some)? 2. Can we alter a Christmas book as our journal? 3. I start projects as soon as I sign up for the swap. to ensure I have it completed in time. You stated, "please keep the size of the journal under 8X10. You might check with your partner to see what size they would like." Do we have to make the size our partner asks for? This will be a problem for those of us who start projects early.

@midteacher - 1. Scrapbook paper should only be used as decoration in spots, not as pages. 2. Feel free to use a Christmas book as the starting point, if you want. 3. Since this is sender's choice, you can make the journal any size you choose. I only suggest checking with your partner for those who wait until partner's are assigned to begin working on a project.

What are tags and tuck-ins. I've never done a junk journal and I'd like to give it a try.

A tag/tuck-in is a small item that you design to put into a pocket in a journal. Here's a page that shows some tags. They don't have to be "tag shaped." They are blank on one side for the user, or they can be blank on both sides.

What's the proper paper to use for the pages? Sorry, I guess I had more questions than I thought.

Okay, I finally used my brain and Googled Junk Journals. Now I get it. I wish someone would host a beginner's junk journal swap. Teehee!! I'm going to give it a try and see how it comes out. Looks like a ton fun.

I'd join a beginners junk journal swap too! I'm also just getting started in this.

jdawn1105 10/16/2013 #

I would also join a beginners junk journal swap.

midteacher 10/18/2013 #

I would prefer to have a nice mixture of everything... Please no preaching or bashing.

Have mine completed. One I got the process started it was difficult to stop! Please think about including with your completed book any leftovers that you might have that the person can use when they work in the book such as the remaining stickers, washi tape, left over scrapbook paper, ribbon, etc.. Just a thought.
