Description:

A Sew Random member requested a swap for homemade snack bags, so here we go!

You will make two (2) snack bags for your partner, using this tutorial. Note that this bag does not have a waterproof lining. We will do a future swap for a different style bag with a waterproof lining. That one is a slightly more difficult project, so if you are a beginning sewist, I recommend trying this swap first.

You do not have to use the same fabric on both bags, but the bags should coordinate. Consider using two fat quarters from the same line, or two of the same print in coordinating colorways.

If you want to vary the size of the two bags, that is also acceptable. At least one bag should be the size shown in the tutorial. If you change the size of the second bag, make sure it is a usable size for snacks.

This is a novice/intermediate sewing project. Your finished bags should have neatly sewn edges, no loose threads, and securely sewn Velcro.

  • Check your partner's profile for likes and dislikes regarding colors and prints. See NOTE below.
  • Send on time! I am giving you plenty of time to work on these, since they are probably a new project for most of us.
  • Rate promptly and accurately.
  • Communicate with your partner and the host (me) if there are any problems.

NOTE: If you would like these bags made for a child, please note the child's age and gender in the swap comments, so your partner can make appropriate fabric choices.

I've got 3 kids under 10. Some fun novelty prints that are gender neutral would be great for us! So glad to be doing this swap. We love our reusable bags!!

There is no sppecific type of fabric required? Or, should I assume quilting cottons only?

@alysowl , right, quilting cottons would probably work best.

I hope to assign partners later today. I am waiting to hear back from one participant who has a late swap on her dashboard.

I finished these last night, and they go together pretty quickly and easily. I hope you all have fun making them. :)
