Ugly Yarn Swap - US Only

Launch gallery slideshow

Swap Coordinator:YarnTails (contact)
Swap categories: Knitting  Crocheting  Yarn
Number of people in swap:7
Location:Other
Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:March 15, 2008
Date items must be sent by:March 24, 2008
Number of swap partners:2
Description:

Almost all of us have some yarn lying around which we never use because we don't like the color, texture, fiber, etc. We consider it "ugly". While you think its ugly, someone else may find it beautiful.

By signing up for this swap, you agree that you may receive "ugly" yarn in return. There is no guarantee you will find it beautiful.

Any type of yarn is okay to send - Acrylic, Cotton, Nylon, Rayon, Wool, Fun Fur, etc. All yarn is fair game in this swap.

You will have 2 partners and send them between 8 and 10 ounces of yarn. You should send at least one full skein, and then you can also send partial skeins.

Information on postage costs: As long as you don't go over 13 ounces (including the envelope), the maximum first class postage rate will be $3.17. When you go over 13 ounces, the post office rate jumps to $4.60 for priority mail. I am just trying to figure out the most yarn for the least amount of postage for you. :)

You can always add extra yarn if you would like. But be sure and take your package to the post office to be weighed for mailing.

Please do NOT sign up if you are a yarn snob and dislike acrylic or specialty yarns.

ONE EXCEPTION to the rule: Allergies. If you are allergic to certain fibers, please list this in the comments below so that your partner can take that into account.

I never tell anyone how to rate, but because "ugly" is a point of view, a "5" should be in order as long as you receive your yarn, even if it turns out to be truly ugly.

This fine print:

This swap is open to the US only due to postage costs.

This swap is for swappers with a rating of 4.9 or higher, at least 3 rated swaps (mailed swaps), and no swaps outstanding more than 5 days at the close of the signup period.

If you see that there are questionable swappers signed up for this swap, please let me know.

Oh if only this was later like March. I have a lot of ugly yarn I can't use.

I have some yarn I can not wait to find a new home for! I hope it is beautiful to someone... I hope I dont get the same yarn back! HaHa!! I have no allergies against any yarn or fibers.

Hi Jessica - If this one goes well, I'll do another in April. Hopefully you can join up then. Some of my yarn is not really "ugly", but I'm just tired of it and feel like trading it in for something "new" to me!

Hi Zip0099 - Thanks for joining! Yea, I hope you don't get your same "ugly" yarn back either! Likewise goes for me too! That would just be too hysterical!

Forgot to add -- I have no allergies nor snobiness against any fibers.

Reminds me of the song that starts out "Everyone is beautiful, in there own way...." Every YARN is beautiful in it's own way too!

Let me get this right... I CAN NOT send more than 13 ounces? So each package Must be between 8 and 13 ounces, but not any more. I don't have a scale at home! Can't I eye-ball it and if I happen to get 15 ounces in there, that'll be okay too?

Hi ChefSheela -- Oh no, you can send as much yarn as you would like!!! :)

I edited the swap to try and make the postage comment a bit clearer. As long as you don't go over 13 ounces (including the envelope), the maximum first class postage rate will be $3.17. When you go over 13 ounces, the post office rate jumps to $4.60 for priority mail. I am just trying to figure out the most yarn for the least amount of postage for you. :)

Hope this helps you out!

i like ugly yarn. i tend to make ugly projects with it but at least it makes me feel better. this is my kind of swap. my girl friend recently made a pom pom scarf out of the tails of a number of skeins. it is a beautiful scarf. i will try to get a picture of it and maybe convince her to join as well.

hi, just signed up need to say that I AM ALLERGIC to WOOL-- and feathers- but i have never seen yarn from feathers

any way i was in a swap like this earlier made a scarf for my future DIL from the "ugly" yarn i got and and she LOVED it

one woman's trash is truly another woman's treasure!!!!

Ditto from above: I have no allergies or snobbiness in regards to yarn. If you have a bunch of "ugly stuff" to choose from and wool available I can use it and plain old acrylic has a use with me also.

Just to clarify something. I understand this to be for new skeins of yarn and not yucky, or recycled yarn - correct?

olsencjw 03/15/2008 #

Ok, I'm ready for my partner... I have a lot of nice yarn ends, and some stuff that's not really ugly, but I just need to "rehome" because I didn't get around to the project before the need or cause was obsolete... Glad to see what new inspiration I can get as well.

No allergies here.

Ive gotten some cool yarn in previous ugly swaps, and I have gotten some that I will pass on to y'all. It's fun to see what shows up.

No allergies here except smoke makes DH really sick and he does live here so I guess that counts. Brenda aka knitmom7
