Description:

This next in a series I will be running if for both beginner and experienced Art/Visual journal-ers!! I have changed it slightly so any feed back welcome.

Please take part in as many or as few as you wish. I hope that the guidelines will mean everyone get a similar amount of effort put into their journal but it still has a large range of creativity in it.

We will be swapping an art journal on the go, completing 3 pages then swapping, then with the journal we receive completing the next swap and so on. So after a while you will receive a full Art journal with lots of different art in it!!

Step 1: either BUY or MAKE or USE an art journal that you have that has been started by yourself (or someone else in a previous swap).

The Journal is it be approx 15cm x 21cm or A5 sized. Each journal is to have at least 15 pages. Your swap buddy needs to be able to use the paper however they like to art up the pages. For example layers of watercolour, collage, glue, painting, stamping, crayon, pastels, binder, glitter, printmaking ect, Please avoid the cheap copy or flimsy note paper to forestall any disappointment & journals not holding up. Composition books are not suitable. The paper has to take mixed media applications :)

Step 2: Complete 3 pages :

On the first 2 free pages: Art and text! Please include the date and name of the swap and your name (either mundane and user name as you like ) though as it is an ART journal, art is our focus, ^_^ you MIGHT like to include info such as; who you are and what u do, contact details of some kind, (such as email, postal address, web site/blog, swapbot, city you live in, ect only put what u feel comfortable leaving, and IF you only wish to leave your swap-bot user name that is fine as well.).

Page B. Decorated!! How ever you like, collage, paint, drawing, printmaking, or a mix :) text is allowed.

To get you started;

Show us your favourite art making, or experiment with something new An example might be .....if this is your first art journal but you have always loved to knit: photocopy a knitting pattern and paste it in.. use yarn to tie-up the page, knit a page marker, photograph a collection of your knitted items and create a photomontage with them. ** this is an example only, Really the sky is the limit, have fun and create**

Pages A and B are a double page spread (full page spread i.e. both left and right pages or both pages that u see when u open the book )

Now…

Page C. can be anywhere in the book, Start a page!! we all know how a blank page can look so sad, so do something to a blank page, splash some paint, prime it, add a journal prompt, rub-on, stamped image, a magazine cut out.. whatever.. something to start the journal-er on their art making.

The idea was the 3rd page is then left for someone else to finish and can be anywhere. So the journal would be sequential the first person leaving the title page free and working on their double page… their third page be any where, say on page 10 of the book for example. Then in another swap the next person would use the next 2 pages for them selves and start their 3rd page maybe page 8 of the book and so on so eventually someone one would use each page some being prepare by others previously

*** Minimum requirement is that you have completed at least 6 type 3 swaps and been rated at least 4.85.****

I also reserve the right to assign partners at any time within the 7 days allowed by Swapbot.

Happy Swapping!!

RECAP ON JOURNALS IF you are buying your journal an artist sketch book type is suitable but obviously if u wish to use watercolour paper or other thicker mixed media paper book that's great too.

IF you are binding your own, rings, cords, stab bindings, coptic or whatever will hold it all together is wonderful.

It is not necessary to decorate the title page or covers that is up to you or you may leave that to the recipient.

Other swaps in the series

There is no correct way to journal and you don’t need to buy expensive supplies but here a few jumping off points.

so this would be like a round robin, you make a journal, artsy 3 pages one full spread (2 pages) and one anywhere in the journal but only you just start it not finish it, that is for the other person to do. Is that correct. Then you assign partners and send off your Journal. at some point you will receive your Journal back completed. am I understanding this right?

So we only do 3 pages? I am a extremely new newbie to journaling. But would like to try this. Seems like alot of fun.

:) Hi thanks for asking!!!

Yes this is like a round robin but it's kinda up to chance if u get your journal back!!! some participants have put their details in the book asking when it is full to be posted back to them... This is optional of cause... The journal is for the recipient to do as they wish. The swapper only does 3 pages. But the rest of the book could be empty BUT it may have already have pages completed in other swaps or in classes ect. So some of us MAY get a full book.

Hope that clears it up :)
